Saturday August 9 Well my second and third day in Reykjavik went off pretty smooth. After my rain out night, I stayed at the hostel the second night and then used a hostel tent the third night. The third day I spent laying in a hot tub at the natural pools next to where I was staying. They are a lot like the ones at Radium. Then I walked downtown and bought a bus passport which allows me to go around the country once on the major road using any number of buses and stopping at any town I want. This morning (it is Saturday that I am writing this in MS word) I got to the bus terminal and got on a bus headed for the second biggest city in Iceland called Akureyri. I told ... read more

Sunday August 10 So it rained Saturday night. The tent did what it does. Not that I'm not impressed by the micro-climate created in such a small area, but waking up with my hair soaked and the risk of getting all my stuff wet isn't fun. I packed up the tent and headed to the gas station to catch the bus to Akureyri around noon. I met a German school teacher who was also going to take the bus. He had been biking around Iceland, but tweaked his knee and was now playing catch up via the bus to meet his buddy who was still biking. The bus trip took 2 hours and once again passed through crazy awesome mountain sites. We rolled into Akureyri at about 2:30 and I made my way to another campground. ... read more

I aixo que encara ens queden tres ... read more

After another slack night in my ridiculously nice hotel in Oslo, and a huge free breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, plus the trademark cereal covered in yogurt (which got a few funny looks) I made my way to the airport. A 3 hour flight later and I was landing in Iceland. Before the plane even touched the ground I was thinking to myself, I have got to come back here sometime. The landscape was unereal, mainly volcanic rocks and mosses. The airport is about 50km from Reykjavik so I caught the shuttle bus into the city, and made my way to the camp ground. I decided after bashing my budget at the hotel I would do some camping. Issue One: 8 degrees and raining like death. Issue Two: The amount of condensation that accumulated inside ... read more

So it was onto my next adventure, Iceland. As the name suggests, I was expecting it to be pretty cold there, but I was pleasantly surprised when I turned up and it was actually warmer than London! My first day, it was about 23-25 degrees. Very nice! It didn't last though, and although it got cooler, there was no need for the thermals I took along. Anyway, I landed in Iceland, in a place called Keflavik and made the trek to the capital, Reykjavik. I must say I was a bit surprised by the city, and the country in general. I didn't realise it was as small as it was. Reykjavik has a population of 200,000 and the country in total is only 100,000 more. Also it is very volcanic, so much so that all the ... read more

I guess i'll pick up from where the last entry left off and continue through to my departure. I am going to put a ton of pictures up and I suggest you check them out. The Icelandic countryside is ridiculously stunning. When this trip was initially booked, I did some research and found that Reykjavik despite it's reputation for crazy nightlife is really only a party town Thurs-Sat. As a result, I was a bit worried that I would only get one really unnecessary night of binge drinking in. Unbeknownst to me, Monday was a national holiday (I think "commerce day"), this led to two things. 1. A large % of the natives of Reykjavik were on vacation in the Westmen Islands grilling puffin, hanging out and drinking beers and 2. The people who were ... read more

Just a quick note to Johann who commented on yesterday's entry. I meant no disrespect to the people of Iceland. Also, I was not expecting tropical weather, it was a reference to the song "Tropical Iceland" by the Fiery Furnaces. Ok, from the top then. I woke up around 1PM after taking a nap to try and counteract the onset of jetlag. First checked out the square and area immediately around the hotel, then went down by the harbor and through a flea market that is setup indoors near there. Headed to the other side of town and got lunch at Solon, which was a pretty mediocre rendition of fish & chips. I wandered around the town for a few hours and I must say, it's very clean and I didn't run into any areas that ... read more

Don't be fooled by the standards of Air France, British Airways and certain others if you fly them first class across the Atlantic and assume all European carriers are quality. Icelandic Airlines is one of the few airlines flying into Reykjavik (I flew JFK---Keflavik), in fact I didn't see any other airlines parked at the very small single terminal of KFK. I don't have time to go into details now and i'll try and post some pictures later so just the quick run down: "Saga Class" is Icelandic Airlines First class and it is somewhere between a domestic carrier's idea of Coach and 1st class on Sub-3 hour flight; it's not comfy when you're on the plane for 5+ hours. Even though Mighty Ducks II taught us all that Greenland is covered with ice and Iceland ... read more

Dragi moji. Ce/Ko greste na Islandijo, pojdite na Westmannske otoke. Nujno.
