Last weekend I went to Budapest which was awesome. I went with 6 other girls, which was fun except to big when we had to a taxi. About half the people from my program went to Budapest (like 50 people). So when we were waiting at the train station on the way there because the train was delayed there were at least a group of 30 CIEE kids. (some people took different trains). Then on the train ride back when we were kicked out of the train and out of the station because of the bomb threat there were about 50 CIEE people standing around. Thought it was so cold so we a lot of us ended up going to a near by Mc Donald’s. There was only one person who ended up missing the train. ... read more

Sorry for the long hiatus, but most places we go only have one computer and there is always a long wait. Besides, we have really been enjoying meeting people and planning our days instead of surfing the web. Bret posted an updated entry yesterday at www.travelblog/bloggers/honest-abe. So, that should give you an idea of what we have been up too. Since last time we have been to Warsaw, Cracow, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. This afternoon, we are taking a night train to Venice. And will be in Italy for awhile (Venice, Florance, Rome, Pisa for two hours, and then Torino for two nights to get a taste of the Olympics). Hopefully, its not too romantic... I basically wanted to post an entry so everyone knew I was alive. We are still having a blast. Sad to ... read more

Aunque ... read more

... read more

The last three days have been very long. On Wednesday morning, I got up and caught the 8:38am train to Budapest. No problems doing that. Made it to Budapest and was able to leave my bag at the train station for only 630 Forints. (By rough calucations I think that is about 1.80 pounds or $3.50.) I headed out to explore the city and the whole thing was completely covered in slush. Did not make for the best walking tour. I came into town at the Keleti Station and from there I wanted to go to the Heroes' Square (cause my sister said I shoud)--but there is no Metro line that goes there. Oh well. I just decided to walk it since it was not tooooo far away. On my way there, I wandered though the ... read more

It was both unbelievable and completely normal to meet my girls from College Park in Budapest. Rachel and I arrived mid-morning, after a three-hour early train from Vienna. "Well, here we are!" we said, a little baffled, as we were the only people in all the train-station bustle lacking direction. I had to use the bathroom but that required Hungarian forints, which neither of us had; to add to our general bewilderment couldn't read signs and kept on forgetting that asking questions in German did little good. But it was a beautiful day. Sunlight floods the station through huge, art-nouveau style windows. We managed to find our hostel on a map, and decided to ignore the directions Lindsay had given us ("take bus 7, it goes directly there") and would walk to the hostel instead. We ... read more
