CORFU (Oct 4) We docked in Corfu around 5 am with no accommodations booked. Most young travelers go to the party resort called the Pink Palace. It caters to booze guzzling twenty something travelers looking to party and perhaps share a little love. We wanted nothing to do with the place. However, by the time the ferry hit the unwelcoming port, the man standing at the port with a minivan and “PINK PALACE” sign somehow became very appealing. Next thing we knew, we walked onto the bus like zombies. As it turned out, the Pink Palace was not that bad, and relatively quiet; there was 300 people staying there as opposed to the regular 800 to 1000! We had to do a shot of pink Sambucca upon arrival at 6am and then slept for the majority ... read more

The Mainland. Here's our adventures so far on the mainland of greece. Athens to Thessaloniki and down to the Pelaponnese. More to come in Corfu and from Igomenitsa to Meteora and Thessaloniki again. GREEK INSIGHT: It seems, in their attempt to be helpful, Greeks will tell you how to get "THERE" even when "THERE" isn't "THERE", it's "HERE". But 'Greek-in-question'has never even heard of "THERE" only "SOMEWHERE" or "HERE" but never "THERE". Instead of saying "I don't know where "THERE" is he will pull the answer out of his butt and smile while he tells you that "SOMEWHERE" is indeed "THERE". After all he's got a 25% chance of being right as "THERE" can only be right, left back or straight ahead of "HERE" and assuming you take his advice you're too lost to find him ... read more

Why don't we do it in the Rhode Now in Rhodes Town, got there by ferry last night. I never knew about this place - it is bloody great! In case you have never seen it, it is an ancient port town with a walled city and lots of winding streets, etc. It is in great nick, though I would compare the ambience to Florence and it pisses all over York. In the new town, there are the usual touristy bars, which actually made a change and I was able to sup some CIDER, gas with some Brits and get off me tits. Today was "history day" (that's you, that is), so I walked around the walls and visited the palace of the Grand Masters (Sugar - Caine, B-B-Baby). History is great, but museums can sometimes ... read more

Well, I got as far as Karpathos - 60 miles and then we anchored in a secluded bay miles away from anywhere.  That night, the winds set in and lasted for 3 days, so we were stuck.  All there was nearby was some ruins from an ancient port, one old guy (it took half an hour of charades to establish that his name was "John"), his missus, five goats, two cats ("gato"), a well and a fig tree.  Good job that there was plenty of booze on board.  After three days of that (at which point, I was ready to hammer a nail into the back of my hand for something to do - I settled for a bit of snorkelling instead)  we decided to bite the bullet, risk our lives and race through 2 narrow ... read more

Went windsurfing today - felt like a spaz and then something clicked -i.e. how  to *actually do it*.   Only 5 mins b4 they called me backin. The plan *was* to take a ferry to the island of Karpathia.  As I washeadiing toward the Info office, I spotted a red ensign Britishsailing flag on a yacht in the harbour.  I thought I might pop insay hello and see if I could scrounge a lift.  No lift, but I ended updrinking loadsa beers before making my excuses.  On the way off "yacht1", spotted another Britmoblie making its way into port.  Why not,I thought - ususal patter - and now I am joining them on a jauntaround some islands (Karpathos, Rhodes, Thira?)- kerrr-azy!... read more
