Dusk in Crete
We left Sitia at 6am (yawn). Why don't we do it in the Rhode
Now in Rhodes Town, got there by ferry last night. I never knew about this place - it is bloody great! In case you have never seen it, it is an ancient port town with a walled city and lots of winding streets, etc. It is in great nick, though I would compare the ambience to Florence and it pisses all over York. In the new town, there are the usual touristy bars, which actually made a change and I was able to sup some CIDER, gas with some Brits and get off me tits.
Today was "history day" (that's you, that is), so I walked around the walls and visited the palace of the Grand Masters (Sugar - Caine, B-B-Baby). History is great, but museums can sometimes be crap. This one does not get filed under "crap". Recommended.
I also did the usual tour of the marina to see if I could scrounge a lift to Kos. There was only one British red ensign and it belonged to a beast of a superyacht with full time crew staffing it. I asked if they needed any crew and the snotty bird said
All aboard Mr Orion
My unfortunate shipmates + skipper not if I am English, because Paul McCartney(!) doesn't like it - reminds him too much of home. I said that I understood, but was a bit gutted really. Then I started to think of lots of reasons why Macca may be wise not to have yours truly on board:
(1) I wouldn't be able to resist "accidentally" calling him "Ringo" all of the time. (2) I would tell him that Wings were crap. (3) I would nag and nag and nag him until he finally agreed to sing "Yesterday". (4)I might hum John Lennon songs all day. (5) I would insist that he agreed that Oasis are crap.
