Our next destination wasn’t too far away . So where is Suzy parked. She is somewhere known as the Eyes of Venice. The Venetians built their castle here at Koroni in order to survey the shipping lanes between the Adriatic and Crete. What a wonderful shipping lane it was too. The sea crystal clear aquamarine with tiny fishes swimming. The sand pristine. Guarded by a castle it is described as a town with steep streets leading to the castle. Koroni was one of Venices longest held possessions. Important for the production of siege engines. The fortified bluff commands grand views across the Messinian Gulf. It’s streets are stepped and ramped and all lead uphill. They have little changed since the Venetian occupation. The Michelin Guides does no justice to describing what is a pretty town. After one eye of Venice we had to go and see the other one. Sally Sat Nag did her usual car trick of taking us up high roads and down deep valleys. Through tiny Greek villages and high up impossibly narrow roads. We really have to invest in a new sat nag that caters for motorhome proportions. We have had some hairy moments of having to turn round or hold our breath in anticipation we will get through some small spaces. Up to now luck has been with us. The broken window in Suzy has held out too and looks as if the temporary repair will last until we get the old girl home for something more permanent. We have covered over 2000 miles average consumption 25 . 2 miles to the gallon. We were heading ... read more

Last night Will suffered from a bout of heat exhaustion and had a rough couple hours so today was very measured in terms of activity, siesta and sun. After hanging around the pool for a bit in the morning we drove to Pylos – 6 km for lunch – local sausage, chicken souvlaki and tiny grilled fish – again the kids loved that they were chewing fish eyes and brains Pylos has a cute harbour but is not really a draw. Then we drove another 10 km to Methoni – we swam in the ocean on a lovely beach right beside – the Venetian castl3e from the twelve hundreds has the sea on three sides and a massive moat on the other. Then back for a late siesta and a swim. This area of th Peloponnese ... read more
