Kirsten and I wake up, it’s 8:30am and we both feel well rested. Uli and Gudrun have a great breakfast waiting for us. This is the best Zimmer I’ve stay in. Omi, wakes up and is down stairs soon. Omi and Gudrun go way, way back if you haven’t figured that out yet.
After breakfast, Kirsten works with Omi on ordering her train ticket to Fulda using her phone. It’s is impressive how much Omi uses technology, iPhone, iPad yeah.. she’s getting quite good at posting, using Apple Pay, taking pictures and finding Kirsten and Bea on Find Friends.
Everyone gives us a great send off and we promise to return soon.
On the road again...
Kirsten is driving and I’m navigating, where are we going, I have no idea, maps, iPhone. I have to ask Kirsten to pull over so I can unfold and refold my map to the correct section. Maps, CarPlay, iPhones every device has a different location, and down the road we go.
We’re on the autobahn heading toward Frankfurt before I get the navigation under control
I find the German Wine Strass on the map and ask Kirsten, do you
want to take the backroads or highways?
Back roads of course silly, I go in and turn of highways and Kirsten takes the next exit.
We wine (wind) through village after village and as were passing through one Kirsten sees an Imbis (food truck with no wheels) serving roasted chickens. Kirsten down shifts and does a U-turn in front of oncoming traffic. I’m hanging on my Oh Shit handle and we end up in the parking lot of the Imbis stopped. Kirsten looks at me and asks lunch?
She out of the car talking to lady behind the counter ordering half a chicken and two beers. The lady turns to me and says’ Sechs euro achtzig, that’s $6.80 in German, I stand there with my money in my palms and she picks through it and waves me off. We have a nice lunch of roasted chicken and beer it was great. I still have no idea how much money she took.
We get to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, that Neustadt on the Wine Street/road for all the non-Germans folks.
We vonder through the town and decide to have dinner and spend the night. We find
this cute hotel built into the city wall for less than 50 Euros, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. We have dinner in the Market Platz with all the locals. After ice cream, we stroll back to our hotel and to bed we go.
Good Night...
Next morning, we have breakfast and off we go following the wine strasse. But not before making our lunch/snack sandwiches. Each village is as cute as the last. We stop and sample the wine and have a snack in multiple villages. Yes, just taking in the beautiful villages and vineyards.
Once we finish the wine strasse, we are headed toward Baden-Baden. Kirsten found a wine fest there and we’re going.
But, first, we need to find another place to stay. Last night Kirsten said there is a Zimmer in Kuppenheim and if we don’t find any other cute place we’ll stay there. Me... I’m good, all Zimmer’s in Germany are pretty good.
We pull into the Zimmer located in Kuppenheim after multiple tries to get the innkeeper to answer the door he finally comes. I think I woke him up. Ein Zimmer Frei? That’s German for Is
there room in the inn? Ya, Ya, I follow him back in and he asks in German Fruhstuck? That’s do you want breakfast in German, I answer Ya, Ya. He gives me the keys and points toward the room, Danke, Danke.
After unloading our suitcases Kirsten and I are back in the car heading over the mountain into Baden-Baden. We find the wine festival (fest) and enjoy the evening of wine, food and festival activities. Lots of great food and vino was had by all.
Once back into our Zimmer we both collapse on the bed.
Good night.....
