Hi all, so its been a while since I wrote an entry to a my blog. Let’s see, I have done quite a lot in the last two weeks. I was in Rotenburg with my tandem partner Klaus. Rotenburg was pretty cool; they have a wall that surrounds the whole town parts of it was destroyed during World War 2. After World War 2, many businesses in Germany and across the world raised funds so the wall could be rebuild. When I went and walked on the pathway that is build onto the wall, I saw all the different companies that donated money for the wall to be rebuilt. I saw a lot of Japanese companies like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Sony, etc. I also saw a lot of Japanese tourist in Rotenburg, I wonder if there is ... read more

Hi, I'm writing to reflect another week in Germany. Let’s see, I have been in Stuttgart last week and have some pictures to add that are pretty cool. I also got to explore the little town that I currently reside in and its surroundings. I will elaborate on it at I add the pictures. Life in Germany seems to be going pretty good. I think that I have adopted living here quite well. One thing that I have heard some people wishing that they had is a car. I mean it would be nice and more convenient, but not necessary. The public transportation is awesome here, I can get a bus that comes every 15 minutes to go to the train station and from there I can pretty much find a train to any large German ... read more

Hi all, I am in Germany and have been here for a week. I never have met so many people from so many different countries and different cultures. Not only have I been learning German grammar here, but also learning about different cultures. The Goethe Institute should be considered a world culture importing institute. There are 150 students here that come from 45 different countries. That is pretty amazing to me. My floor consist of six people: two people from USA, myself and Ann, my roommate Alex is from Romania, Lijla is from Ukraine, Svetlana is from Russia, and Pelle is from Sweden. Ann says hi. Here at the Goethe Institute we have breakfast from 7 A.M. to 8:15 A.M. then class is from 8:15 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. and then lunch is from 12:45 to ... read more

Hi there! This will be short, but I felt the need to share this with you. We have the same staff working in the cafeteria as we did last month, and as part of our daily routine, we have to show our student card when we pick up our meal to prove that we've paid already. The lady who runs the cashier at the beginning of last week told me that since she knew me from the month before, that it wasn't necessary for me to show my card every day. So, every day for the past week I've simply said "Guten Tag!" and gone on my way with tray in hand. Yesterday afternoon I decided to get a haircut, which turned out quite well if you ask me. I found a picture in a magazine ... read more

Well hello there! It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to update, and I have much to catch you up on, so sit back and enjoy yourself. :-) Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to try my hand at making a food that is a significant part of the German culture: pretzels! And I don’t mean the tiny, hard pretzels you buy in bags at the store; I’m talking about the big, soft ones sprinkled with sea salt. They’re so good! At any rate, Wednesday afternoon my class and our teacher met at a local bakery called KronMüller. The bakery is literally across the street from my housing and I have frequented it several times since arriving in Schwäbisch Hall. Their food is delicious and I was very excited to be able to go “behind ... read more

I realized that I haven't really made any comments about my living conditions and the like, so here goes... I live in a building called Josenturm, and for those of you who know what a turm is, the answer to your question is no, I do not live in a tower. :-) But there is a tower attached to the building by a deck/walkway about two stories up. I live on the ground floor with three other women. Each floor is set up apartment-style and two people share a bedroom. Our floor only has two bedrooms, but every other floor has 3 or four. This is because our floor has the only washer and dryer in the whole building, so we often have traffic coming through our apartment. The central area of the apartment is the ... read more

Hallo! I had a wonderful weekend. Saturday I walked around Schwäbisch Hall just to get my bearings and I was also hoping to take pictures, but it was fairly overcast, so I'll save that for another day. I stocked up on food at the market and ended up cooking with a couple of my friends. It was fun, but the experience gave a more concrete meaning to the phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen" :-) We had two people who truely knew how to cook, and then one who is just learning. We just made pasta with a meat sauce, and then one guy made stir-fry as a side dish. It turned out pretty well and was fun for everyone. Cooking on the weekends will always be an experience to remember, I think. Sunday I ... read more
