I’m gonna warn you in advance that the rest of this blog about our six day journey to France is entirely about Disneyland with the exception of a six hour trip into the heart of Paris. (And even when we visited the Arc de Triomphe, we went to the McDanlad’s nearby.) Okay, so this won’t be the best travel blog ever, but Katherine had a great time. We checked out of the Novotel in the morning and headed for Disneyland. Then we checked into our Disneyland Paris hotel, the Sequoia Lodge. They had a meet ‘n’ greet character area near the check-in. Katherine went nuts when she saw Tigger and yelled, “My Tigger!” Unfortunately she urgently needed a new diaper, so we explained that she could see Tigger after we changed her diaper. She entered the ... read more

My my my, what a week this has been. I have been on many adventures and have had some major changes to my agenda! Here goes. Having my guest, dearest Amelia, for the weekend was wonderful! She arrived into my metro station at 12 on Thursday night and the fun began. It was a bit of a squeeze because a friend of hers needed a place to stay so my hard wood floor was the best option for her, bummer! Friday classes ran over so I met them at the Musée d’Orsay and then we ate too much lunch and then bided our time until the Louvre was free for students and went and enjoyed the museum for a few hours. Then came a yummy dinner in my area. Saturday we jumped up to go to ... read more

the Flight Kelley's dad dropped us off at the airport with plenty of times to spare. So while waiting for our plane to board, Kelley went and got some Burger King and I watched the people with the obnoxious child. WE eventually got on our plane, Kelley was kind of spazing out even with all the drugs she took. We landed a little early in Chicago, Jenn came running over worried that we had missed our flight. She thought we had a longer layover than we did. We ended up sitting just behind Jenn on the flight from Chicago to Paris so that was pretty cool. Once again Kelley panicked a little. She is a horrible flyer! The flight, however, was not bad at all. It didn't drag on like the last time I flew to ... read more

When does a four-hour drive take eight hours? When you’re traveling with a toddler, of course! We left for France at 9:00 a.m. and didn’t arrive until 5:00 p.m. The drive was pretty, though. Both Germany and France have lovely fall foliage right now. We had planned on driving straight to Reims, stopping for lunch, touring the cathedral, and then continuing on to Paris, but Katherine got cranky way before Reims, so we stopped for lunch near Verdun. We ate at another truck-stop over the autobahn. (Same kind as we stopped at in Belgium. It‘s a chain, but I forget the name of it.) The best thing about this stop was that Katherine’s kid’s meal came with a Sponge Bob (“Bob L’Eponge”) comic book in French. I’m not a big Sponge Bob fan, but it was ... read more

Tuesday is a good day. For the first time in the history of my education I regularly have a day off on a designated school day, and today, Tuesday, is that lucky day. So, naturally, that means that I woke up today at about 5 AM. This always happens to me; on days when I have nothing planned to do I always get so excited about the possible things I COULD do that I wake up way to early. Now that I am in Paris and my possibilities for the day are so exciting I have to force myself to sleep longer than 5 AM because that is just a ridiculous hour to wake up when you go to bed regularly at 2 AM. So, today I got up around 9 after some fitful turning about ... read more

Drove down to the local market, knowing we would come back loaded with goodies. As expected, the produce was direct from farmers and very fresh. Bought lemons that looked as if they had just come off the tree! No pesticides, so farmer said we could eat the skins too. I was drooling over the different mushrooms, tomatoes, avocadoes, fresh basil; etc. Even the potqtoes we bought still had earth on them. Then to the local buthcer to buy a piece of steak. The butcher cut off 2 gigantic ribs from a roast. That night we barbecued and Robin Made a ratatouille. Anita made a scalloped potato dish in the oven. The local wine helped it all go down too.... read more

Arrived in this little suburb of St Raphael on the Mediterranean. We are blessed to have a wonderful friend (with whom I worked in 1971-2) who has let us use their spacious house here. Five of us are well installed for 10 blissful days. The weather is fantastic too. It is a 10-minute walf to the beach. I thin I'm going to like it here!... read more

Can't believe it's been only 5 days since my last entry. So much happens each day that I must handwrite it or it's erased from my memory. We have stopped for a few hours in Aix en Provence for lunch etc. This is the city of fountains--the largest town we have visited since Paris. The others have gone off to visit some museums, but I decided to just walk about and get some emailing done. We are using a lot of secondary roads which pleases me no end. Yesterday we spend the day in Pont St Esprit, Orange and Chapteauneufdupape--all lovely towns. I noticed that Orange is due East of St Gervais, but only the tiny roads cross the Rhone directly, so we took them and got home in 45 minutes.... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Saint-Raphael » Brugge October 23rd 2005

23rd October 2005 Brugge, Belgium......to Calais, France......to London, England. Whether it be due to aftereffects of the marjuana, the minuteness of the country itself, or a general weariness from the endless travelling of the past twelve days, I remember little of Belgium. What the terrain or the architecture consisted of, I cannot tell you. Of Brugge, where we stopped mid-morning for a very brief walking tour, I remember only quaint stone bridges over swan-filled streams, cart-and-pony traps, belgian waffles, lace shops, stone architecture that possibly looked medieval, and an enormous ancient square surrounded by tall hulking effigies by stone. We were gone almost before we'd arrived, hurtling towards Calais in France and our ferry across the English Channel. The day passed fairly uneventfully, and again there was enough fog in Dover to put paid to any ... read more
