After Carly headed back to Clermont, Allison and I headed to Villard for some skiing/ boarding. It was interesting to try and work out rentals in French. We spent the day on the slopes and had some really great runs....Especially Allison....My personal favorite was her falling off the ski lift, but running into the bright yellow CAUTION sign came in a close second. After we went down the villiage for some dinner and then on the way back had the taxi from hell...he was taking curves like he was James Bond on a curvy, non-lit, mountain road...yiiikes. On the way back, we had some travel difficulties. There was a time change so we missed our first bus...then because of that we missed our train...then got stuck in Lyon...thennnn had to take a train built in like ... read more

I love the sun. I love skiing. I love beer. Combine the three, and you’ll soon find yourself sitting in a chair in the French Alps in the ski slope with a beer in your hand, roasting in the sun. Skiing is great; in fact skiing in “Trois Vallees” is pretty much as good as it gets in Europe. But the feet hurt like hell from the rental boots. And the beer is German white beer in proper large glasses. Besides, being the first day of skiing we can afford to chill for a bit. Before we know it we’ve spent a few hours sitting still in the beautiful weather, but brutally exposed to the sun. “Why didn’t you use sunblock?” the wise might ask. “Because I usually don’t need it”, would be my reply. But ... read more

Went to Grenoble with Carly and Allison. Took the early train and checked into a random hotel. We ended up going out to cool bar called "English Pub" which was fun. There was a bartender who spoke english from South America and was really cute. He liked to dance and had no problem showing us his salsa skills while we sat at our table. Allison got a little sick because of the Stella Artois haha. Then we went to Cafe Beaux-Arts and saw the end of Simon Carriere's set. Fun music with a crazy drummer...I mean he really got into it. After we met Simon, who proceeded to write out the lyrics of his songs for us...it was pretty funny/strange/cool. My favorite part however, was when he asked Carly what her name was and she replied, ... read more

Hi All It's hard to believe that i have been working in France now for a week because it's gone so quickly. At first it was a bit surreal bing away from Glasgow and my 9 - 5 job but i'm settling into the work hard play hard culture. Working with loads of nice people and starting to get the hang of working in the restaurant (not spilt anything hot on a guest yet or dropped anything!) Sunday is the busiest day for us and i was at work for 5am to help all the guests get their breakfast and coach transfers then it's a rush to get all the rooms cleaned for the new guests arriving. Finished at 1pm and on a split shift so will be back in the restuarant from 6pm - 11pm ... read more

Hi All Well, i'm finally here in Tignes after a very long journey. The plane journey to Geneva was fine, it was the bus journey to the resort that caused a few headaches. Due to avalanches the road to our resort was closed and we had to spend the evening in a gym hall on crash mats! It was bl**dy cold but i met loads of my new work mates and it was a bit of a bonding experience and certainly something to talk about with the new guys in the resort. Another girl (Roni) was starting on thhe same day as me and she is now my room mate in our new apartment. The accommodation is basic and cosy but in a great location right beside the ski lifts and above a bar! there has ... read more

BONJOUR!! wow what an amazing way to start my tour of europe!! In total i spent 5 nights in France - 2 nights in Paris, 1 night in Lyon and 2 nights in Nice. I seen some of the most amazing sites and ate some of the most disgusting french dishes. My highlights from my time spent in France: 1. Eating snails(ok well i didn't eat a WHOLE snail but I ate half...as I was chewing on one, it broke in half and i somehow swallowed one half and I just couldn't handle anymore and spat the rest out. I can say I've eaten snail though...Alex and I were the only one's that night that ate any snail. The others chewed and then spat but that's an achievement in itself!!) 2. Eiffel Tower 3. Surviving the ... read more
