On the 16th we travelled further around france to lyon where we stopped at some castle thing for lunch, which looked great but was almost normal after seeings all of paris. After a lengthy 2 hour stop, we went back on the bus and headed to lyon city for the night. Long bus ride. In lyon we had a free evening so wen and had an awesome french dinner (snails and frog legs included), a full 3 course meal which we were craving. It was then an early night (11) cause we had to wake up at 6 to get to barcelona. ... read more

Hey Ho everyone, Well it's been a while since i've added anything on here - mostly due to the fact that i'm so busy at the moment with uni and the fact that i've not been anywhere too exciting. That was until last month. After a hectic Christmas and New Year involving the usual shennanigans I headed off to Les Arcs in the South of France for 8 days with a bunch o people from uni. After a 36 hour bus ride we got there and boy was the discomfort worth it. When we arrived there was about 2ft of snow on top of most of the vehicals, it was dark but we were 1800ft up the side of a huge valley so could see all the lights over the whole area and everywhere was white. ... read more

We made the most of the European winter by spending Christmas and our 3rd wedding anniversary snowboarding in Bernex, France. A great little resort. And in February Dave headed back into the Alps for a "Men's Quest for Greatness" weekend in St Moritz, Switzerland. ... read more

Nic's dad decided to treat the family to a snowboarding holiday in Val d'Isere and thanks to clever costumes and make up Dave sneakily took the place of his wife, Yvonne. Snowboarding was a lot of fun and very painful. So painful that Nic reverted to skis half way through the week! We enjoyed more great food and wine, made some good friends and had a jolly good time. We will be sure to do it again some time soon... read more

Hello Reader. It is called 'Les Marmottes,' which is a small, gopher-like animal who has nothing to do with cheese. The restaurant, on the other hand, leaves an inescapable aroma of cheese on the clothes of every guest. After playing Mario Kart for a while and then cleaning up Johanna's house, went to meet Jojo and her sister, Tamara, near the restaurant. Tamara had also invited two of her friends, Stefan, from Barcelona, a musician who was more comfortable speaking with me in Spanish, and Romain, a theater student, who invited me to go on a twelve day hike around Mont Blanc in July. After walking a few unnecessary blocks to the restaurant, we met Christophe, an avid reader, and recently became a fan of opera. Are you taking notes? Later there will be a quiz ... read more

Hello Reader. Only thirty-five minutes after being dropped off by Claude at a gas station in France did the fifth patron of said station approach me. He had long, blonde hair, blue eyes and looked to be about twenty-four. He said in a thick French accent that he, too, was a traveler and would be more than happy to bring me to Lyon. Didier, which I had him spell and could not pronounce, informed me along the way that he was of Islamic faith, prefered black women, and only had three points left on his licence. As we moved closer to the city center, a voyage that took about an hour, my exposure to French swear words increased. Rough around the edges is the perfect way to describe him. He let me out at the main ... read more

12/10/05 - The drive to Chamonix (in the French Alps) from Switzerland, felt like we were driving to the roof of Europe. The road kept climbing gradually higher, it is also an amazing engineering feet, with its foundations way down in the valley and the actual road hugging the sides of the mountains. At 130kmh the valley below was rushing by and the mountains to our right were a much more secure thing to focus on. Chamonix sits in the valley below Mont Blanc at 1036 metres, so for us Aussie mountain dwellers, it was odd that the floor of the valley is 571 metres further above sea level than our home. Driving into Chamonix produced so many “oooh’s” and “aaah’s” from us both, the town is squeezed below the Alps and is something like Thredbo ... read more

Having spent a couple of days in the small town of Beaugency (Near Blois) we got the train back into Paris and then into Lyon. Beaugency was nice though and we saw a big chateau on our day trip to Blois. Whilst we enjoyed our stay out in the country we are glad to be back in a place with more modern facilities and english speaking people. Lyon looks good from what we have seen, we will upload some photos when we find an internet cafe. Our hostel is on a very steep hill overlooking the main city and the view is great! On monday we head to Nice and then Frejus 2 days later. ... read more
