Whilst Mike carried out fruitless searches of the marina bottom for his spear, I cooked breakfast and Becky did the dishes while we chatted. After giving up on the hunt for the spear and eating some croissants and egg, we headed off for the mighty Rhone. I handed Becky and Fred their life jackets as we approached the first lock. They looked a bit worried. “Oh, don't worry, it's safe,” I said “But it's the law to wear life jackets in the locks on the Rhone.” They looked happy enough. The locks on the Rhone were the biggest we'd seen yet, and must have been pretty impressive for fred and Becky who were experiencing their first lock ever.
