So we took it very easy - average speed 14.2km/hour. Cycling has to be one of the best ways to really experience new landscapes, as long as you're not in a hurry. At... read more

We have been so busy day to day and especially while cycling for 7 days - once we got to our destination and finally relaxed, then got ready to eat dinner - we were so absolutely 'buggered' writing about it all was the last thing on our minds. But now I have ome moments I will reminisce for you. The area or 'Department' we rode through was called La Creuse, named after the river Creuse which flows into the Loire. It is populated by small medieval hamlets and towns and is the rural area of the Limousin Region. Let me outline our Tour de France. Day One - 45kms Aubusson Round Trip - Hotel D'Or Day Two - 51.5kms Aubusson to St Avit de Tardes - Moulin Teteix Day Three - rest day at Moulin ... read more

If you need confirmation as to what train will get you where you want to go, don't have any illusion that you are safe asking a conductor. After asking one, I confidently settled down for the journey. I was on my way to Toulouse, at least that is what I thought. No doubt I made good joke fodder that night for the conductor and his drinking buds. He gave me the nod in the opposite direction somewhere in Massif Central. It was late at night so I decided to quit fighting it for the day, epecially since I was told there were no other trains heading south to Toulouse. I was bone weary, didn't want any hassles at all. Brive-la-Gaillarde was the name of the obscure town where I landed. Fortuately I had no trouble finding ... read more

Today we sleep in and were down to breakfast at 9:30. Everyone was a bit worse for wear because of our late night of partying. We had a nice breakfast of: baguettes, meat, cheese, cereal and hot chocolate/café’ au lait, before heading back to the old city of Rocamadour. After the short drive to the Chateau (on the top of the cliff), we were slightly disappointed to find that it was mostly closed to visitors. So we drove back around to the lower part of the cliff and parked to have another look around. There were a few stores open; however, it looked like the State Fair several weeks before opening. There was a lot of activity moving setting up and cleaning, but not a lot open for business. We enjoyed a nice walk and headed ... read more

We started out this morning with a beautiful breakfast of croissants, baguettes and yogurt. This was complimented by 8 hard made jams which the owner makes himself. There were a total of 24 flavors in the breakfast room this AM. Not that I counted, he told me. It was wonderful, we thought lots about family: how if Mom and Dad were here they would have enjoyed the novelty of the many homemade flavors or how Carol would appreciate the work it takes to make jam to begin with. Anyway, our breakfast was consumed with conversation about family back home. What a great way to start the day. Cristiana continued to impress the owners and was a brave translator for all the departing questions. We left the car at the hotel and took a stole around the ... read more

I luv eating in France! The food is great & there is heap's of it! ( i even eat frog's & snails and loved em!) A typical meal in France: Apperitive (alcoholic bev to start) then appetizer, then main, then fromage (cheese) then dessert & finish with coffee. And there is always plenty of cut up bread sticks on the table and tasty wine & you can get it good and cheap (€1 or €2 about 3 bucks). We stayed with a french family that mum met in AUS & they where so great. Pascal was a master chef & he cooked us huge feed's for lunch & dinner. Fried frog's legs, pork, ginny foal, garlic butter snails, cherry pie, rasberry slice & tirimisu (even better than yours brides). Joslin took us on a tour of ... read more
