Our Second Night in Paris
Kirsten is still asleep. The hotel we are in is quite nice the bed is a marshmallow.
Yes, finally we’ve found a bed that Kirsten falls into and sinks like she’s falling into a cloud.
As she’s waking up I hear her say. I think that was the best night sleep I’ve ever had. I just smile, ok great can we go get some breakfast.
We get ready and head down stairs, ok one of the most important thing we been told. I mean told over and over, you have to have your breakfast voucher to get breakfast. Don’t lose your breakfast voucher you will not get another one.
So this little piece of paper the size of a business card gets us into the biggest feeding room you can imagine. Yes… if you didn’t have the voucher you didn’t get breakfast. I think the guy at the door is the last of the Nazi’s.
The breakfast was ok, I don’t think it’s worth guarding that much.
After breakfast, we’re all loaded on the bus and are given a bus tour of old Paris. You know Eiffel Tower, Invalides(the
old Solder home), Plaza de Concorde, the Opera, hmmm I’m sure I’m missing something else but by the time we got to Notre Dame we were ready to go out on our own. Yep, heard it again “there they go honey. I know dear, I wish we were that courageous”.
Kirsten and I stroll away laughing and holding hands.
We found a café and had a seat and had a couple of cappuccinos. Watching everyone stroll by. It was Sunday morning and mass just started and we decided to go. It was very peaceful listing to priest and choir. We received communion and our blessing and we were off to see more of Paris. It’s good to have your sins forgiven, not that I’ve sinned.
Every time I’ve come to Paris I like seeing Sacre-Coeur. This is a cathedral build on the highest point in Paris. It’s meaningful because an uncle of mine who was called Brother studied art in Paris before the recession. He is the one who named momma Marguerite and this is where St. Marguerite is from.
We stopped at small grocery store picked up some more tasty items along with us a
beer and found ourselves a bench in the shadow of Sacre-Coeur. Needless to say it is a nice view and peaceful Sunday picnic.
After lunch we made out way back to the hotel and grabbed a quick nap. Our plans were to fly home from Dusseldorf Tuesday. To get to Dusseldorf we either had to rent a car or take the train. We decided on the train because getting a car in Paris was difficult as well as very expensive.
We took off again and from the hotel and jumped on the Metro and took it the North Train Station. Not the east or the south but the “Gare de Nord Station”. After multiple changes we were there and it only took 30 minutes. We were impressed with ourselves. We purchased our train tickets and reserved our seats.
We were ready to have one final night in Paris.
We had our bread, olives & Oil, cheese and salami only thing we needed was Wine!
We found a store found the wine section and purchased two bottles of burgundy wine.
All we need now is a nice scenic spot on the river. That wasn’t hard
after strolling for a while we found a nice shady spot. We sat on the shore of the river with hundreds of Parisians.
Oh yeah, nice. Everyone was sitting, eating, drinking and enjoying life. Some had setup nice picnic spread others like us were just working out of their shopping bags.
We sat there watching the tour boats and dinner boats going up and down the river. We waved and they waved back. Everyone was having a good time including us.
As the sun went down the Eiffel Tower along with the all the bridges lit up. Kirsten turns and says it’s going to be tough to top this vacation.
Yea, but I’m up for it.
Are you ready for that soft bed, Kirsten Smiles you betcha!
