Thursday, July 30-Fougeres, and the Forest of Paimpont (Brocliande) Today is our last day in St Jacques. When Dean returns from the pool, we pack a lunch and drive to Fougeres, another walled city, but this one with the chateau/castle restored. From the tourist info center, we walk past the points of interest to the church of St Leonard. Behind the church are amazing public gardens that cover the entire hill leading down into the old city to the chateau. One stairway is made of stone carved to look like logs, and the gardens are more wild/natural than manicured. It is beautiful, but I am glad we are walking down the hill, not up. The chateau itself is very well restored, but the English audio guide tour is a bit cheesy. It is interesting going through ... read more

After April break, I was, of course, back with the Courtets. I dropped normal-English but stuck with History-English, where we are currently studying WWI from the British perspective. Next Tuesday I get to do the talk about me and the US, which, with this class, shouldn’t be that bad. Carnac Brittany- Camping Le Moustoir We arrived here on Sunday 7th after a 6 hour tiring drive down and walked round to select a pitch, finally deciding on this one, near the showers and swimming pools. I knew it would be a tricky reverse in but hadn’t counted on the audience that appeared. Martin unwisely built up the scene by saying ; “ watch this and learn!” ...I ask you! I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me and the car and van. ( I later found out that Pete one of the audience was a lorry driver) I fluffed the first approach by coming in too wide so pulled forward and started again. My trusty( ??) observer wasn’t being much help either. I tried again. Now clearly rattled and embarrassed, I failed. ... read more

Today was another travel day for me. I woke up early with Flore and her mother around 8 o clock in the morning and got my things ready to leave. Flore and her mother were making there way to the north of France to meet Flore’s father where he was working for the week. They were taking the car and so they dropped me off at the train station so that I could catch my train at 11:52 am. I sat and waited in a special waiting area inside the Dijon train station and read a lot of A Clockwork Orange. I must say that one of the best part about this entire trip has been my ability to read un interrupted. This trip is almost 85% relaxation, and because of that I have found ... read more
