I decided to do one blog entry for our time in Brest. Mainly, the first day we didn’t’ to much by drive yere, have lunch on the way, and dinner. Today, was also pretty short. It is yet another long weekend here in France, with Monday being Victory Day. They are much more about celebrating World War II events than we are back home. But then, there country was bombed and invaded by the Nazi’s early on. The allies did their share of bombing of France as well. In Fact, many cities in Brittany were completely rebuilt after the was since there wasn’t much left. This makes Brest much more modern, that traditional French. Saturday started like every day in France, we went down to breakfast, then got ready for the day. Breakfast was better than ... read more

Just a quick update today - Maggie blew through coastal France last week, porting in Brest. There are a few pictures, though she did report that the mud flats were not as bad as she had thought (no photos of those unfortunately). They did not make it to Paris because they were not able to buy return train tickets, so alas, Disneyland France will have to wait. She and her friends did celebrate pedicures and fancy dinner on the ship together, though, which she said was tons of fun and one of the best times she's had on the ship. A few pictures from that in this post. And I added several photos from Portugal, so backup to that previous post and be sure to check out the Paiva walkways images - they will make your ... read more

Happy Birthday to Alex Chinn! Today our oldest grandson is 14. Today we woke in Baja 508 in Breast France. During the night it had been kind of windy so the channel was bumpy. Also we had further to go than just to Guernsey, so he had to go faster than planned and that also made it bumpier. But we are fine and did not have any seasickness. We did not have any particular plans for today so it was going to be a fairly quiet day. We went down to the dining room for another sit-down breakfast, and Janet was able to get another of her Eggs Benedict. It was a strange breakfast as people kept leaving and being replaced, but it was fine. We heard about a ship which had recently returned from an ... read more

When my 5 week stay in Rochefort was over, I had about 1 week left in France and I wanted to make the most out of it. I was more confident with my grasp of the French language and I realized spending those 5 weeks in Rochefort had been a good idea. I really wanted to visit St-Malo and Mont St-Michel in Brittany and afterwards go to Caen from where I could visit the beaches of the landings of Normandy. Before going to St-Malo and Mont St-Michel I went to Brest to visit and old friend of my parents, Jean-Yves Cypres, whose children I had visited in Laval, about a month and a half before. To get to Brest from Rochefort took several hours, with a combination of 2 trains and a bus. I hadn't seen ... read more

We left Falmouth and a Pigeon adopted us for the crossing, obviously too much effort to fly. Sam looked after it and fed and watered it, eventually when we were approaching Brittany and about 300 metres from land it flew off. It showed us its gratitude by leaving deposits everywhere that we are still cleaning up ! - Andy Sam – My addition to the blog can be summed up in one word Bleeuurraaagh! I am the she beast from Alien, even when there is nothing left to throw up I manage to produce gallons of hot stomach acidy bile ------Whhhyyyy??
