Well the time is nearing for our launch date! Daniel arrives on the 25th of may and we he's to our start point in Hendaye shortly after that. He is at the moment up in the peak district trying his kit out at 'boot camp steve waters' - go easy on him Steve he needs to start the trek in one piece! The weather recently here has been of impossible prediction. One moment 28+ degrees annd bright sunshine, the next ferocious thunder storms. So we can pretty much guarantee that when we set off we are going to see a little bit of everything! For those of you wondering what the blazes I am going on about, myself (Ben Honisett) and my brother in law (Daniel Parker) are hiking the GR10 trail across the Pyrenees mountain ... read more

We'll yet again apologies for another long delay in blog spot!!!! Right work is well and truly underway. We now have a new roof on the back section, our old chimney has been re-crepied and strengthened and at this precise moment in time we have a digger out the front ripping up all the hard standing to make a new level area. It really is a building site at the moment! But t is great to see the big things getting done. Smaller things are also getting done, I have started again on the painting in the middle section now we have a few weeks alone here! The middle room is now no longer a mix of colour but a crisp clean white! Our room next! On a sadder note a member of our french family ... read more

What can we say - again we have left it way tooooo long. SORRY. Right what has been going on since our last blog. Well The roof is now off the back section and the new one is ready to go on. We are having all the walls strengthened and crepied before doing so . this is likely to happen whilst we are away in the UK for my cousins wedding. We hope so anyway! the weather has caused progress to be a little slow. We are having glorious sunny days followed by a day of stormy rain, this makes it very difficult for any constant work. I have got some pic's of how things are going for you to all see and will load them up when I get back later this evening from training. ... read more

OK What can we say . . it's been too long since we have had a chance to put anything up and we must apologise to everyone. It looks like we have well and truly settled into the laid back life style here, thats probably when we haven't published anything for ages! Well since our last blog entry things have been very interesting. Helen is still working a few days a week for the Cavell groups and is doing very well indeed. So much for the quite life as she jets in and out of home to go off for meetings and work, it's very tiring for her and myself but she enjoys it and when she arrives back here in France she knows she can relax a little here. As for the renovations, well I ... read more

Firstly we can say that there is no excuse for such a lapse in our entries. APART from we have been busy, entertaining, building, integrating, painting, plastering, gardening, going out to dinner or BBQ's with new friends, walking, running, skiing, cycling, cheering on the local rugby side, days at the beach and basically rushing around the area. When we first moved over here, people said to us, goodness you coming in the winter? They said it would be grey, quite, miserable and cold. Well yes, there were cold, grey wet days but nothing we were not used to back home in England. As for the quite life, you must be joking. The people we are meeting both local and ex-pat are nothing short of fabulously friendly. We have probably made more friends here in the ... read more

Monday saw the start of yet another era (seems to be happening a lot at the moment) I am no longer a spritely twentysomething with a spring in my step and the world at my feet.... no I am now wiser, saggier and preparing for serious world domination... :o) To mark this occasion Ben has been plotting and scheming behind my back, which I have now forgiven him for. I have to point out that I am very proud of my restraint - I could have hacked into his email, read his messages, tapped his skype and generally tourtured him to spill the beans but no I behaved. And I was very glad that I did. On Friday Ben disappeared to do the shopping and returned 2 hours later with my mother, my brother Steve and ... read more

Hi all, Not going to make any apologies about the lack of a blog over Christmas.... we were relaxing fully for the first time in ages!!! Been a wonderful break from everything, we do however hope that you all had a good holiday and wish you all the best for the forthcoming new year.... We downed tools just before Christmas to run to the airport and pick up Helen's mother who was joining us for the festive period, we managed to just finish off the first room for here visit, literally put the hammer in the tool box, picked up the keys to the landrover and off we went!!! We spent most of the time relaxing, had a few visits to local attractions, such as Bayonne, a beautiful town near the coast, huge fortified walls and ... read more

No mistake in the spelling for the title - that's how we will probably be speaking after getting through our Christmas stash of vino!! After a quick recommendation from our friends at the camp site in Naverrenx we decided to top up our wine rack, which had been starting to look a little bare from when we used to live in the UK. We had bought a few bottles and even though a lot cheaper than buying wine back home we started to feel that it was going to cost us a few bob to set up for the Christmas period - so off we trundled to the local cave - these are small wine producers, very local and very cheap! We had bought our 20 litre jerry can, a hand corker and some corks. We ... read more

Hello to all. Hope everyone is starting to get into the festive spirit!! Weather here has turned again - very, very cold first thing and in the shade, but really nice and warm around midday and in the sun, bit like being back in the UK when you go out you don't know what to wear! Also the snow is growing everyday now on the mountains - looks fantastic! People have been asking for more photo's so here they are, these are more views from around the town and of the mountains - hope you all enjoy. Also the decorating is going well, now have fiber glass to add to splinters in my hands, plus we had to evacuate the house yesterday as the floor varnish was so strong we were both starting to see double!! ... read more

Hello all. Brief up-date on progress and events here in France. Continuing on from the events of Shark extreme myself and Helen found ourselves caught up in the local crowd at the local bar. This comprised of a few rugby players, the local vet and some particularly mad bikers. Wine and beer was flowing and we soon found ourselves in the middle of the community in the bar, conversations were a mix of english, french and franglais! Everyone was having a ball. We were an amusement for the rugby players who initiated our arrival in the town with wierd sweet liquor which had to be downed at regular intervals - have since found out that chicken in english is the same in french when being applied to someone not taking a risk or their drink quick ... read more
