After 9 days of foul weather our host David promised us a fine day today and he didn;t disappoint. We set off this morning for St Emilion, wine district extraorinaire and world heritage listed. fantastic; you approach it from the flat and it rises before you like a mediaeval adventure world. Then you find out there,s no free parking; We wandered the streets of cobblestones (old hat by now but still impressive here), sampled some of the local fruit of the vine and bought a bottle; Liz fell over twice (before the wine) and is now officially registered as accident prone; then we went to a lovely little town called Libourne for lunch and sat in a park and ate our baguette (barney) and boogie (Liz) then it was on to a lovely little nugget of ... read more

I travelled with Teresa, a girl from Canada. We met up with two other people 1 day in Lisbon - Vitor (Brazillian) and Ale (Mexican). The couchsurfing went great - they fed us, showed us around the city, and took us out! The first stay in Porto, the people weren't even there - they had their friend give us the keys to their apartment - it was crazy!! Teresa and I took a train Thursday from Bordeaux to Paris and stayed in Paris for the night - we did a little sight-seeing that night...took about 50 pictures of the Eiffel Tower - it proved difficult as it was dark!! We then took a bus early the next morning to a town near Paris to take our Ryanair flight to Madrid. We were in Madrid for the ... read more

Okay...I think I'll write separate blogs for life in Bordeaux and my trip - just in case you get bored reading :) Bordeaux is still amazing - I feel at home now...it's great!! I'm finding it kind of difficult to learn French since all my classes are in English and most of the people in my classes are exchange students. But being on the basketball team should help with that - we only speak French there!! Basketball is a lot of fun. Of the three games I've been able to play in, the other teams have forfeited twice, so I've really only played one game. But practices are fun and the girls are really nice. There's a sports challenge in Bordeaux over Easter weekend, so that should be fun. There will be 5 other schools coming ... read more

Sorry I haven't written for a while - I was quite busy before leaving for vacation and I had a few group projects and a paper due this week (I finally have homework!!). So there should be a new blog updating you about my life in Bordeaux and one with all the detail from my Spain/Portugal trip soon (as in Friday or Saturday, hopefully!!). Until then, I have posted a picture from Cascais, Portugal!!... read more

This was a fun week! I've been sick, so that wasn't too much fun, but everything else was!! It was a really good week for weather, so that rocked. On Wednesday, Melting Potes (the group that helps international students with everything) had a party at a club near the train station. It was a lot of fun - the club was really packed and the music was really good! It was a good thing I didn't have class on Thursday because we had to walk home and didn't get back until about 5 a.m.! Thursday night I went out to an English pub with some people from class - it was fun to get to know some new people! Friday I decided to stay in and attempt to get over my cold - went to bed ... read more

My first class was International Business Marketing - we had it for 2 1/2 days straight - now we're done until the final...hopefully I took good notes! :) We had a group project - a 5 page paper and a presentation - it was interesting to get it done in one night - definitely not the best project I've ever done! My French class is really easy - some people in the class can't even read French and don't know some of the basics - but hopefully it'll get more difficult as the class goes on so I can learn more French and become better at speaking it. I had basketball practice last Tuesday and it was a lot of fun!! It was hard to understand everything, but towards the end I was able to figure ... read more

It rained all last week, so when it was sunny this weekend, we took advantage of it! On Saturday, I wandered around Bordeaux on my own, just enjoying the weather and trying to see more of the city. I saw a guy peeing on a building and yelling obsenities in French, which was quite creepy! Saturday night, we went to the Brazilian's apartment and hung out for the night. I was able to meet a few new people, which is always fun! I met another guy from Canada who wants to watch the Super Bowl, so we're hopefully going to have a good-sized group in the bar on February 3rd! On Sunday we took a trip to Arcachon, a town on the Atlantic Ocean. It was absolutely gorgeous! I took off my sandals, rolled up my ... read more

I probably should have started this when I got here; but since I didn't, the first one will just be super long! I will try to update weekly, if not more often, depends on how much is going on. The flight over went really well. The food was quite gross, but what else can a person expect from plane food? :) None of my baggage was lost, so that was also good. I was picked up from the airport by a girl from the school. We also picked up two girls from Greece, a girl from Mexico, and a girl from China. They were all very nice! The apartment is very nice and is in a very good location. The only downfall is that there isn't a living room area where people can come and hang ... read more
