Tonight is my last night with John and Ingrid. Tomorrow I will be taking the train to Svenborg and then the bus to Ubølle to visit and ecovillage north of this town. As for my time here, John and Ingrid have been just perfect hosts. They have fed me frikadela and rye bread up to my ears! I've never eaten so much in all my life. John took me to visit Ribe and the island of Rømø. He laughed when I was in Ribe because I went to the same bakery, ordered the same pastry and walked down the same street as Grandpa did when he was here. John was nice enough to show me his massive butterfly collection which I found very interesting. We spent lots of time with Trina and Peter and they were ... read more

I just arrived in Denmark today and I have to say I'm fairly tired from the train trip. All in all I was on the train for 8 hours but John Mikkelsen was there to meet me at the station in Esbjerg which worked out just perfectly. This evening we had Trina and Peter over for dinner as well as Trina's husband Peter (I guess Peter is a fairly common name?). Tomorrow we will be going to a fairly medieval city nearby to do a small tour and then I will be going with John's son Peter to a pub in Esbjerg for a few beer and to see if those Danish blonde girls really do exist :) ! We also managed to dig up a few old photos of Grandma and Grandpa from their last ... read more

After four changes of trains we finally arrived in Holsted to be greeted at the railway station by Moses Hansen - our son-in-law Thomas's dad. At 'Pottemagerens Hus' into which they have recently moved we finally met Joy - Thomas's mum. As Joy couldn't make it to Katherine and Thomas's wedding in October 2006 it was a great pleasure for us to finally meet face to face. No sooner had Joy and Moses showed us around some of the house and garden when the Neilson family arrived - Maria, Lars and the kids Patrick, Amie & Jeanett. Six months ago the Neilsons left Australia to return to Denmark after living, in Baulkham Hills for around 18 months - good to see them once more. It will come as no surprise to Sean who was 'amused and ... read more

We got up in the morning and visisted the Roskilde Museum, which told all about the town's history. We stopped by the Bishop's Palace which was a very bright yellow building with orange roofs and a gravel courtyard. We were told that the Roskilde Domkirke opened at 12:30, but the sign outside said it did not open until 1, so Mom and I decided to skip it and head on to Odense. We made a stop along the way at the Lejre Forsogcenter, which is a replica of a really old town. It reminded me of colonial Williamsburg because they had blacksmith demonstrations, as well as demonstrations on how to make a canoe out of a log. I slept in the car ride on the way to Odense and wok up just in time to help ... read more

Today was not spent in the typical Danish way. Our family friends we are staying with decided to take us out to their local lion park, as you do in Scandinavia! So we had a lovely day in the Sun with african animals. Tomorrow morning we head off to Northen Jutland, Frederikshaven, where we will catch the ferry to Goteborg in Sweden to stay with an old friend of mine. Will be sad to leave here as we have been so well looked after. However, we are fed and our clothes are washed, so off we go to the next place to stay! Unfortunately this will be the last for 3 or 4 weeks until we hit Finland, where we will once again be looked after by family friends. The weather here is fabulous, hope it ... read more

So, i'm going to write a travel blog, too! Where to start? How about right now. Having done the typical Will thing of leaving it to the last minute, I awoke on the 2nd of April thinking "Damn, I gotta do some stuff today!". On the bike I hopped after a minimal breakfast, and headed for the NRMA. There I got an international drivers licence, then quickly went to Alexandria to get a new pair of shoes. Shoes are really all you need for travelling I think. Back home and into the packing, which, with the help of Anna, was finsihed 30min before leaving for the airport. Yikes, airport? I'm going somewhere? Apparently I was, and that fact is still slowly sinking in. After a few tearry goodbyes, and 7000km, I was in Hong Kong well ... read more

Today reached Langeland after a very long cycling day from the eastern to the western end of Lolland Island involving a race to the last ferry before early sunset in order to allow some dusk light to find the campsite on Langeland. We actually stopped taking pictures mid afternoon because of the necessity to get to the ferry in time. A worthwhile decision since the campsite on Langeland was a very nice one. This would be out last long cycling day and last camping night. ... read more
