August 23, 2006 - August 24, 2006 With our vacation book ended by Stockholm and Copenhagen, we decided that some time spent outside of a major city would be the perfect change of pace. Surveying some of the neighboring options, we opted for Aeroskobing on Aero Island. Aeroskobing is often described as a Danish fairy-tale town containing the perfect countryside comforts that we so eagerly craved. The trip out to Aeroskobing was no easy task. Our difficulties in finding housing in Copenhagen the night before certainly didn’t simplify our travel plans. Our travel itinerary looked something like this Wednesday morning; Train from Helsingor to Nyborg (traveling back through Copenhagen), bus from Nyborg to Svendborg, ferry from Svendborg to Aeroskobing, total travel time of about 4-5 hours. About the only thing missing was a leg covered on ... read more

So after I spent some time in Odense, it was time to move on to visit this small island town Aeroskobing. Getting here is half of the fun itself. The ferry from Svendborg to the Aero island is about an hour and the Scanrail pass does not cover this ferry so it is better if you purchase a roundtrip ferry ticket rather a two one-way tickets. The island is very quiet in the evening as tourists go back to the mainland. Walk around town is the first order of the day when I first arrived in the island. It was nice and peaceful. Too quiet to the point you can even hear the rocking sound of the water come into contact with the bank of the land. There is virtually no traffic light. In the front ... read more

Supposed to check out the Danhostel in Copenhagen today. Stop by the front desk to see if I can extend for an extra night. The hostel had fulled booked. Damn it ! So tired of dragging my backpack around to look for a new hostel, I headed to the train station. Activated my Scanrail pass and on my way to Odense, the third largest city in Denmark and is heavily promoted as the native town of the beloved HC Andersen. Arrive in Odense 2 hours later courtesy of the Danish fast (express) train. Saw the youth hostel by the train station. Got off and stop by to see if there is a bed available. Yes, it is ! The train station is where the city library located as well on the mid level. Got to use ... read more

Danish pastry, Danish bacon and maybe Hans Christian Andersen. In general that's about all foreigners associate with Denmark. Few people actually know that it is indeed the oldest monarchy in Europe, it has the oldest flag in the world and it is the home of some of the top companies in the world such as LEGO, Ecco shoes, Bang & Olufsen stereos, Maersk Shipping (the biggest shipping company in the world) and of course Carlsberg beer. Few people also know that Greenland (the world's biggest island) and the Faeroe Islands belong to the kingdom of Denmark and that Denmark is a tiny country extending only about 330km from North to South but including more than 500 islands. About 5,200,001 people live in Denmark. The "1" is of course little me as in order to enjoy the ... read more
