Oct. 7, 2004 Miriam and Jen go to Praha! We arrived at about noon and decided to rest for "a while" at the hotel in preparation for our big night out on the town. Tomas, a native Czech and friend of Izabela, picked us up at our hotel and took us on the grand tour -- to his office, the National Theater, Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. Miriam and I didn't make it 200 feet before ending up in a store and walking out with matching swarovski crystal bracelets. It wasn't until we left the store that we discovered the bracelets were made in Denmark!! They're pretty nonetheless. ... read more

Prague is one of the most interesting architectually of the cities I have visited thus far. Between the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the Clock Tower in the Old Town Square, there are countless beautifully stuctured and colored buildlings. With each step, I could barely contain myself from snapping another picture. I finally got to get some good sight-seeing in on Saturday. For about 7 hours, I wandered the streets of Prague in search of the key sights from my Spy Map, which one of the nice ladies who runs the Boathouse Hostel gave me before I left. Each landmark on my map that interested me, I made sure to walk there. I didn't realize that these sights would be mobbed. Absolutely mobbed! I realize that Prague is a popular summer destination for tourists, but I ... read more

Since, I traveled to Prague ... I couldn't leave the area without visiting the popular Pilsner Urquell brewery. Located in the town of Plzen, the brewery which is hundreds of years old is quite a beautiful sight to see. The buildings look impeccable and the signature gate is impressive as ever. My friends and I traveled about 1.5 hours to this town to take in this modern brewing marvel. We were not disappointed except for the rather kitschy movie they showed before we actually began our tour of the brewery. It basically was a commercial for the refreshing golden liquid that hasn't been able to be reproduced by any other brewery. We couldn't help but snicker a little. After the movie, we wandered to the brewhouse where we were educated on the process of brewing this ... read more

This small town in the Czech republic is one of the best towns i've been too on the trip.  The town itself has a super chill atmosphere and the hostal we stayed at was part of the city walls.  We spent a day rafting to the next town..and then there was the free keg on wensday.  All in all a great place.... read more

Becca and I have arrived in Prague after traveling through Dresden and Frankfurt.  There is definatly a certain magic to the city... also a certain fakeness to it.  You get the feel that no-one actually lives in the city center..it's all tourists.  Despite this Prague is really easy to enjoy.  And the beer is so cheap in the czech republic..  I have never found a half liter of beer over a US dollar and this in in bars and restaraunts. The food is also plentlyful and cheap.  Just don't go see black light theature because it's horribly bad.  ... read more

Hello again, Where did we leave off last time? Oh yes, 6:00 am, in the park with a reformed heroine addict, thinking about breakfast. After breakfast Anni decided she had to leave. Not really sure where she was going, but she went none the less. We decided that it was about time to see the city, so we walked around. A lot. Between the five of us we spent over 250 man hours walking around Prague, which was great. Some cities have many interesting things, but it is boring trying to get from one place to another. Not Prague. Every where we went we saw something interesting. And everywhere we went Sal(and everyone else, but especially Sal) feel asleep at random times and in random places. At this point, we had endured a solid week of ... read more

So, having finished school at University College Utrecht(passed with flying colors by the way), it was time to head out into the world and see what their was to see. And where better for an American to begin his journey than Prague, home to more ridiculously drunken Americans and Brits than anywhere else in the world, outside of America and Britain of course. Here is how it went down(NOTE: I wrote these as emails while doing the traveling, so outside of the intro these are basically copied and pasted, with some ever so slight proofreading, mainly to protect the innocent who will be reading this and guilty who lived it. Proceed.) Our story begins on a beautiful Sunday morning in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I arise at 9:00 in the morning to prepare for the previously discussed ... read more

A fourty minute train ride from Prague is Castle Karlstejn. The lonely planet guide mentioned fairy tale, and it lived up to the description. Perching on the top of a hill, looming over a village, with flags rustling in the wind. I've never seen a castle as picturesque, though Warwick Castle England was very impressive. The castle was built in the 14th century, and was home to Charles IV, and his 4 wives. For 200Kc (£4) a tour takes you around most of the castle, unfortunately for us, the Chapel of the Holy Rood is closed to visitors except in July - September. The guided tour around the inhabited part was impressive enough. So things I remember: Being a princess/queen was not all it that it is cut out to be. Lots of child bearing and ... read more

A short trip away with my sister has taken us to Prague. 12 hours train ride from Pecs, changing at Budapest. The city of Prague is truely beautiful. The central square, Old Town Square, is full of restaurants, and cafes, and surrounded by magnificently lit churches. These aren't the cheapest place to eat - most of the prices are double what you can pay a kilometer further away, but the square is the place to be as a tourist. Talking of tourists, I've not seen as greater concentration of tourists in one place since I was in London. The streets are heaving with tourists and the street vendors, cafes, pavement tables that go hand in hand with them. On the negative side, groups of drunken twenty something British guys wander the streets like packs of hyeanas, ... read more
