Well have been to Prague and back over the last week or so. Day 0 Left London on a bus at about 7pm at night. (I know you must be thinking that is crazy to go to Prague by bus from London, but it was part of a package I bought from the bus company, return fare, plus 3 night accommodation in Prague, plus a tour of the city for £150. Plus I am fed up of going to and from airports, going to Victoria Bus station is a lot easier. (Some people think that one of the August 21 alleged attempted bombers got out of the UK via the bus station!)) Anyway the bus company was not the usual big National Express/Eurolines but a much smaller company, (which I think was owned and run by ... read more

Jules and I had been planning to go "somewhere"for a little while, and we finally came up with Prague. So after scaring the daylights out of ourselves about whether we needed visas to get into the Czech Republic, we were off, flying out of Gatwick Airport. Our flight was delayed so we didnt end up leaving til 7.30pm friday night, not having much of a clue where our hostel was!! We ended up sitting next to another aussie, a brisbane girl who was nuts. We laughed for most of the flight until after a couple too many red wines, she somehow managed to drench herself and Jules in a full glass of the stuff!! Nice work aussie!! By the time we arrived and finally found our hostel we were starving so went out to try get ... read more

August 2, 2005 - August 4, 2005 So much for sleeping on the flight over to Prague! As soon as I sat in my seat I knew I wasn't getting a minute of sleep as I had hoped to achieve. Surrounded by new born babies and sugar overdosed kids, the flight seemed to crawl by. At the very least, I had numerous fantasies of the days ahead to distract me from the airline daycare going on around me. Arriving at Prague airport, I met up with Keith at the baggage claim. After hitting the ATM to get some local currency, we grabbed a cab to our hotel. We stayed at Hotel Salvator. The staff was very friendly, the rooms modestly priced, and the location only a few blocks from all the action. Keith made the alarming ... read more

Well what can i say, there isnt really any excuse for me not blogging, except that ive been INCREDIBLY BUSY having an AWESOME TIME!! Sorry to anyone who missing the updates but i was a little to busy living the holiday instead of writing about it! Well right now im in a hostel in Prague, in the suburb of Zizkov about 15-20 min walk from the centre. But let me fill you in on before that.... I left Wales on the 7th of July following a nice couple of nights with friends from work, the first being a big dress-up party at a good friends house (Whose parents happened to be in France hehehe), where i got blind drunk for the first time in a while and had an awesome night. I dressed as a clown ... read more

Right. Now my trip starts for real!! Off to Stanstead with Rick early in the morning and saying goodbye to my parents and jolly old England for a while. We arrived in Prague nice and early so we caught most of the rush hour traffic. Never mind. We found our Hostel the Travellers Hostel Uzjed pretty fast. Although I have stayed here twice so that's really cheating! This was all new to Rick and the Uzjed hostel is perhaps the biggest jump into the hostel/travelling vibe you can get for a firstimer. Our first stop was across the road at the Bohemia Bagel for some well earned breakfast, the wake and bake deal works wonders to tired empty stomachs! Then off around the old town to work up a thirst passing all the tour guides holding ... read more

Today we had a bit of a sleep in and tied up some loose ends on the internet. After that we headed out and wandered up to the castle and had a good look around. We went into St Vitus' Cathedral which was amazing. We had lunch from one on the many Bratwurst vendours, funny thing was ours was called a Wenzel's bratwurst. We leisurely strolled down from the castle looking at all the stalls and shops. Matt found himself a Pilsner mug which he was happy with. We found a place for dinner that had an amazing view over Charle's bridge but couldn't make Nachos to save themselves! Matt ended up with a plate of plain cornchips and a dop of salsa in the middle not impressed!... read more

We got up kind of early and packed up our things and left hostel 99 for one last wander around. We looked in all the cute souvenir stores and went up and had a better look around the castle. It was a bit difficult to find breakfast/brunch but the cafe we eventually found was worth the trouble. Matt had a creamy pasta salad and I had a savoury crepe that had brocolli, ham, cheeses and mushrooms yum! We then made our way to the bus not really knowing when it came and how much it would cost. Our luck was amazing, we must have only waited 3 minutes and the bus was heading not too far from our hostel in Prague and it only cost 25 Kc each a steal! In the evening we met up ... read more

We left Vienna yesterday. A 6 hour train ride landed us in Prague! I ran into some difficulties that prompted a trip to visit a doctor! All is well but what a strange experience. It seemed I had walked into a 1930 movie set. Remember those curtained partitions? I was afraid I was going to be electricuted! Anyway, the doctor visit, tests, a shot and rx cost about $30! Prague is one of the most beautiful big cities we've toured and the food is excellent. Every corner we turn you want to take a photo. We visited the Jewish district that became a ghetto during WWII and the Imperial Castle where we watched their changing of the guards. From our hotel room we hear the clip clopping of horse drawn carriages and puttering engine noise of ... read more

''Magic, golden, mystical Prague...´´ The tourist brochures go into overload when describing the Czech capital, but the city lives up to its hype. Prague is a maze of medieval lanes to explore, beautiful parks, awesome bars and clubs, rock venues, museums and art galleries galore. Most backpackers say you need four days in Prague-- three for doing everything and one for recovering from everything you do! Prague´s number one attraction is the Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge. During the summer the Charles Bridge is one of the most crowded places in Prague and you literally need to push your way through the tourist crowds. The Stare Mesto (old town) holds the cities most historical buildings including the Staromestskenam, the Tyn Church, St Nicholas Church, and the Jan Hus Monument. In Nove Mesto (new town) we ... read more

July 22-29 Prague, Czech Republic at Ariva Guesthouse So, it was blazing hot in Prague and Justin desperately needed a haircut but for the life of us we could not find a salon or barber anywhere, and the funny thing is, is that we probably walked by a thousand of them but had no idea because everythings in Czech and we're a bit oblivious. So, the best alternative I could think of was to just shave it all off and that's just what we did. Of course this made Justin a bit nervous, but after a few beers and some liquid courage he wasn't so worried about it and he said if Jim (Beth's dad who also recently shaved his head) can do it, I can to! And of course we have pictures of all this ... read more
