This morning started off with a big bang. We strutted off to Korcula's tiny bus station, hoping to catch the 6.45 bus to Dubrovnik 3 hours away. But when we reached the bus station, we were told the bus was full, and there we are stranded, possibly for another day in tiny Korcula. There is only 1 bus that goes to Dubrovnik and we couldnt board it, wow, that is our worst possible nightmare, we are not used to bumming around doing nothing, and we already feel bored in Korcula. So there we were standing like 2 fools, early in the morning at 6plus, waiting for the travel agencies to open their doors, to check out the excursion schedule to Dubrovnik. Fortunately there are a few other people like us, who are stranded without a bus ... read more

Last night there was a heavy thunderstorm in Korcula island, so heavy that the rain started to seep through the cracks in the wall near the window of our room, and we had to call in the sobe owner. She quickly used some rags and towels to keep the rain from seeping through, that showed how heavy the rain was. This morning we woke up late at 9 plus and took the 10.15 bus to Vela Luka, 1 hr away. Turned out to be a disappointing day-trip. There was nothing much to see, we ended up spending our time sipping coffee in a cafe, while waiting for the bus back at 13.40. So far we have spent 6-7 days in Croatia. A little of my own observation about the national psyche of the Croatians. Croatians are ... read more

Hi there We are in not so sunny Korcula now, after having taken a Jadronilijia ferry from Split which takes us 5 hr 45 min. Upon alighting from the ferry, we were stopped by a middle-aged woman who offered her sobe for 100 Kn per person (SGD 28). She said it is a mere 3 min walk from the harbour, but has neither photos to show us the room/facilities nor a map to indicate the location of her house. After the "experience " in Split, where we have to carry our heavy backpack for 15 min instead of the 7-8 min distance that was mentioned, we were abit wary but decided to follow her cos she looked ok. This is the 2nd time we've been convinced by a local offering their sobe.... both times are women ... read more

Today is our 2nd day in Split. Yesterday as i said, was a BIG christian festival here in Split. Apparently it is a festival to celebrate the birth of the Protector of the Town. Tens of thousands of people were in Split even up til 9pm (which is a rare sight), and there were little stalls selling food and handicraft. We took lots of photos of the people and the ruins of the Diocletian Palace (UNESCO world heritage site). The palace with its little alleys, is quite beautiful and its like a labryrinth. This morning we took a half-hour bus to nearby Trogir. Trogir is another UNESCO world-heritage site. Trogir is smaller version of Split, and much less touristy. Things there were cheaper too. I am using up my 20 min of internet time at the ... read more

We went to Sunday service at the American pastor’s church before heading to Croatia. Beat stayed in Slovenia to wait on the Caravelle which was still at the mechanic. Roger, a former JR soldier who is now a missionary in Slovenia, offered to drive our team to Croatia. Roger’s car passed through the border very easily but the LT carrying all of the equipment took many hours to get through. After we all had made it across the border we met some JR soldiers who are working in Croatia and were taken to the place we will be staying for the next few days. Unfortunately we will not have a concert for four days because our first scheduled one was cancelled. We really need prayer for this to stop happening. The first day here was ... read more

We are in Split now, took the 8 hour night train and arrived here early in the morning at 7am. Apparently there is a very big christian festival here so hoards of people are in Split celebrating the festival. Tomorow we will be heading for Trogir, and the day after, we will be leaving SPlit for Korcula Island, and then to Dubrovnik, our last stop in Croatia. We have plans to visit Mostar (herzegovnia) on a day-trip from Dubrovnik if the visa fee is not exorbitant.....heard that is a beautiful but war-torn place.... read more

We went to the Plitvice Lake National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site 2.5 hrs away by bus from Zagreb. Plitvice is so beautiful, it is like a picture out of a fairy tale. We paid 85 Kuna each (24 SGD) and it includes free shuttle bus and free boat ride. The weather is nice and breezy and we embark on a suggested route round the park which should take us 3-4 hours but in the end it took us 4-5 hrs. The park is so big (there are 16 small lakes) that if you did not invest in a map of the trails round the park, you risk getting lost, which is what happened to us. It is like a labyrinth, we followed the signs but it only led us to the ferry we want ... read more

It is now 6.25 am in Zagreb Buzzbackpacker. btw the website of this nice little hostel is http://www.buzzbackpackers.com/index_en.html. Internet is free and no time limit i suppose, but was always hogged by this angmoh guy. I received my backpack from the ever-so-trustworthy Air France folks (or should i give credit to the lost-and-found folks at Zagreb Airport ?), they delivered it to our doorstep at 10.30 pm last night. I had to return them the receipt and hence did not make any copy of it. Anyway the baggage was delayed for 10.5 hours, so probably cant claim insurance for that. We are going to the Plitvice Lake this morning, 2.5 hr of journey on bus....... read more

After 13 hours of flight from Spore to Paris CDG airport, 3 hours of waiting in transit and another 2 hours of flight, we finally arrive in Zagreb at local time 12 noon, Spore time 6pm. We were tired from having not slept a wink, as the fat african guy sitting beside us was eating non-stop and disturbing our beauty sleep. (yes he was eating non-stop, he brought his own bread and peanut butter when we already had 2 full meals on board the 13 hour flight) So arriving in Zagreb was the happiest thing in 18 hours, but it is without my luggage, that is. Our dear Air France folks had not lugged my TATONKA backpack on board the tiny 50-seater plane to Zagreb and so i was in this lost and found room in ... read more

Ploce is on the Dalmation Coast, we arrived late at night and woke in the morning to beautiful blue skies. We walked around Ploce, up onto a mountain looking down onto the town and then back towards one of the lakes that flow into the bay. It was a pleasant stop away from the tourist trail. We took the bus to Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian Coast is certainly spectacular with rocky mountains, emerald green water and white houses with red terracotta roofs. We stayed in the old town of Dubrovnik which was just awesome, narrow steep streets, marble paving and surrounded by thick fortress walls. We walked around and outside the old town until dark, it was just as stunning during sunset and into the night. The next day we walked (and walked) around the newer ... read more
