After Slovenia we headed to Croatia; Zabreb, Split and then Dubrovnik. Only stayed in Zagreb one day, took the night train there, and then another night train to Split. Zagreb was nothing to write home about. Split was beautiful and on the ocean, which was nice to see after being in a landlocked country for so long. Lots of history, ancient ruins and stuff like that. People seemed to be over it, not too happy to see foreigners there, which is strange because Split is a pretty major tourist spot, and they were more than happy to take my money. But the scowl to smile ratio was still much better than prague. Took a ferry from Split to Dubrovnik, Mike got off the ferry at the first stop to get back to Split where he was ... read more

Walking through the Dubrovnik's old town at night, with the lights reflecting off the polished marble streets is just magical. It doesn't even feel real. Really, I felt like I was in disneyworld or something. I met up with Antonio, a Croatian friend of a friend. He took me around on his scooter and gave me a peek into student life in Dubrovnik.... read more

I was sorely dissapointed, waking up to drizzling rain and overcast skies as the train arrived in Split. But my patience was rewarded as two days later the sun came over the crystal turquoise waters of the Adriatic, which I was quick to advantage of. As it was originally a Roman settlement, Split has an amazing old town, which I spent much of my time wandering and half-intentionally getting lost in its narrow marble alleyways. Hvar Island, which gets more hours of sunshine a year than any other spot in Croatia is a big party island in the summer, but a bit dead this time of year. But a nice place to hang out and relax in the sun. I hung out with a nice young Israeli couple I met, Uri and Tamar, that insisted on ... read more

Dober Dahn friends, Well well our last few days in Croatia were spent very well indeed. After leaving the island of Brach we went to a Davis cup match ( Team tennis semifinals Croatia vs Russia) Croatia won which was really monumental because they have never made it to the finals....so much energy in the stadium and great tennis. They all sang and danced after match... We then headed to the island of Korculla...We again met a crazy guy offering us a room...he said it was only 300 meters from town...it turned out to be about 2 kilomters...oh and by the way he wanted us to SHARE a twin bed...haha...um no...we got a ride back to the center of town where we met this awesome Croatian guy who lived in Australia most of the year. He ... read more

WOW, I just finished reading the Da Vinci code yesterday. Incredible. Best book i have ever read. Granted that is not saying too much due to the fact that i have not really read many books but nonetheless i loved it. 592 pages in less than 72 hours, i am amazed myself. Nursing a bit of a hangover at the moment. We are on the island of Korcula now leaving for Dubrovnic at 1pm, should be fantastic. Stayed at this hostel here that is owned by this south african guy. Pretty crazy place. It was the last night of it being open, closing for the season. He is going to Ko Pi Pi in thailand to start a new one so we have agreed to meet up there with him. Can;t wait. Oi Oi Oi I've been stuck on this beautiful island in the Adriatic now for a week learning how to scuba dive. Tough I know. Well Adam and I were certified yesterday, pretty awesome in that it lasts for your entire life. If anyone comes here be sure to do it through Dolphin Diving center. Fantastic people. We've been on six dives now, 3 beach and 3 boat. The one we went on today was awesome, off the island of Hvar. Went out there and dove for about 40 minutes to this massive rock that drops off to 60 meters. Such incredible beauty. The walls of this rock were a mess of every color under the sun and odd shapes and sizes but together it painted the most beautiful picture. Saw these incredible tiny luminous blue ... read more

Wow what an awesome week! Lloyd and I decided to go to the island of Bol after our new best friend Matejo (Mateyo) kept calling us and telling us how great scuba diving with him was going to be. We arived In Bol on the island of Brac mid afternoon on Sunday...Matej met us at the bus stop and took us to our awesome apartment. We have a kitchen our own bathroom and a large bedroom, all for 20 Euros a night. Two beds of course. We met two guys from SF on the way over. One was wearing a UC Davis Law school shirt, and was instantly our new best friend. We might need a lawyer somewhere along this trip so we got his email address... Anyways. I'll start by explaining the title of this entry. So far whenever we ask for directions we get the response "200 meters that way" I swear everything in Croatia is 200 meters away. It has become such a frequent response that I can't help but laugh everytime I hear that response. We began our time in Croatia in the north along the coast in a little town called Opatija (O-Pat- Ya). This was a really nice introduction to Croatia. You forget how much you love the ocean when you are away from it for a while. We took a swim in the ocean and noticed that there were all these fish floating on the top of the water. They weren't dead they were just getting some oxygen. One of the croatian guys told us that ... read more

Hello from Korcula, supposed birthplace of Marco Polo himself. We arrived in Orebic on Friday and hung out on the beach there for a few hours. It was a nice beach, topless for the ladies (not US of course ;-), speedos for the men, and naked for the kids. We then took a ferry over to Korcula, which is only a mile across the Adriatic, on the island of Korcula (same name as the town). Korcula is a medieval town with towers and a wall around it. It was built in either the 13th or 15th century. We got a really nice room with a different Gramma this time. She is quite a bit tidier than the Gramma we stayed with in Dubrovnik. On Saturday we took a day trip on a boat to the island ... read more

So I just returned from Kasjuni beach. Awesome place. Hiked up through the hills, stopped at a firestation and asked two guys there who seemed to be checking out some porn for directions. Then went down this rather trecherous path and stumbled upon this tiny little yellow church with a ton of candles lit in it and a small bell on top. Eventually found my way down this path constantly jumping from rock to rock in order to evade any landmines left over from the war. Got down, beautiful bay. Plonked myself down on the beach to only be surrounded within five minutes by three scantily clad elderly Croatian men with rather alarmingly large packages(hey i was not looking but when these guys wear their lolly pouches you have no choice) Went for a dip, lay ... read more
