We had been looking forward to this trip for 6 months. We had high expectations.....and they were all met. Warm weather, cheap seafood, and swimming in the clear Adriatic Sea at exotic islands - What more can you want? Read on........or just look at the photos! Wednesday 7th June 2006 We assembled the troups at Luton Airport at the usual early hour that is required for cheap flights. This time we were flying with 'Wizz Air'. Needless to say the name of the airline didn't instill a lot of confidence, but beggars can't be choosers! The team (all of us Aussies) consisted of UK dwellers - Lauren, Nicole, Lauren O'Conner, Simone, Chelsea, Ryan, Mel and Us. Also joining us was Nicole, Jenny and Jason who were all on holidays from Aus. We arrived in Zagreb (Croatia's ... read more

I wasn't happy when the alarm went off. I had a quick bath, and I think I used all the hot water again! Everyone else slowly got up, and I bid them farewell. I will see Kate again soon, and I will see Ginko and Nic in Prague in three weeks. Beck walked me down and saw me off at the port. There was a lot of people sleeping on the ferry, and even though I was so tired I couldn't get to sleep. Off the ferry and I walked around Split, which seemed to have a very nice waterfront. I was walking around in a daze, I think I was still 'a bit how ya goin' from the night before. There seemed to be lots of open areas and shops in the Old city. I ... read more

We were up at 5.15a.m to check which port of the two our ferry was leaving from. On the ferry we all tried sleeping with varying degrees of success. When we landed at Hvar it was raining, and we were met by domati owners (I'm not sure if they are called this, they are in Greece), and even though it's not normally our thing we decided to go with one. By the time we had been walking for ten minutes, he said it would only take that long, we were beginning to have our doubts. We decided to have a look at the apartment, and even though we were unsure we went with it. While we were making up our mind, the bloke was gesturing at us arms outstretched, pulling faces (like 'you tight-arses'), and repeatedly ... read more

We have decided that this glorious Croatian sunshine is all a myth! After being stranded in Bari we had some luck and met Kate from Australia and Monica from Edmonton. They both travelled to Dubrovnik with us where it was raining like Vancouver with brief breaks for blue sky. We only had the one day so we could not waste it. So after finding our Guesthouse the 4 of us braved the weather and took a bus to the old town. It is a beautiful walled city with lots of little alley ways and shops. But the major tourist attraction is the town walls that you can walk and see the stunning views of the ocean and the city. So we waited out the rain in the coffee shop....and we waited.... and waited a little more. ... read more

I LOVE LOVE LURVE Croatia. The people are so nice and speak English. The food is great. The town is beatiful and the weather for the first time ever is sunny and I am for the first day jacket free. I've been walking around with a huge grin on my face all day today. Last night was very rainy but tolerable as the weather wasn't very cold. We took our 3rd attempt at a Jazz bar and struck gold. I drank red wine and smiled and sang as the band played jazz and some pop music. At the end of the night I asked them to play Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars and they happily obliged. I was their favorite spectator of the evening as I was singing and clapping along with them. The funniest 3 ... read more

We all got up around eight and had breakfast from the supplies we had left over. Looking outside the weather still looked a bit doubtful, which wasn't great as we wanted to hire bikes and ride around the island. Despite being unsure on the weather we hired the bikes anyway. Before we set off we bought our ferry tickets for Hvar Island for tomorrow morning leaving at 6 a.m. On the bikes we rode out to Lumbardo, which was a really nice way to see the island. We rode down to the beach, which was nothing special like home (there was no real sand), but the old buildings and ruins framed the coastline nicely. On the more sheltered side of the island the water was a very clear colour, especially when the sun was out which ... read more

today we walked the city walls. incredible. thanks to everyone who's been reading and sending me messages and comments. i read them all to alistair and ryan. we love hearing about what's going on back home. tomorrow we leave for orebic and korcula. sad to leave dubrovnik but we must move on. dad- you would love dubrovnik. jazz, flan and people painting at the top of the city walls sounds like your ideal. not sure about golf here. might not be wise with landmines... we're on our way back to the jazz bar. it's 10:20pm here which is 1:20pm your time. until korcula...... read more

For some reason I didn't bounce out of bed today! Forcing myself out of bed we all went downstairs for some breakfast. I grabbed some yoghurt before going back upstairs to try and get more sleep. It was a pretty slow morning, which was probably my fault because I wouldn't get out of bed. When I did get up it wasn't much fun in the streets of Dubrovnik. The weather had turned. After a perfect day yesterday it was now drizzling rain, and the streets were packed because there was at least one cruise ship in town. This forced our hand a bit in going to Korcula. Ginko and I were going to hike up the mountain over looking Dubrovnik, but there wasn't anything that suited for baggage holding. Our first plan on getting to Korcula ... read more

As my nephew Dylan would say, I'm at the place of "my people". We landed in Dubrovnik around 2pm. I was busy trying to catch up on my journal writing so I missed the landing but Alistair said it was the most amazing landing he'd ever seen. I should catch up on Vienna first though... Yesterday was FREEZING cold in Vienna. When the heavy wind would kick in (which was often) it was hard to walk and was quite horrible. In the morning I told the guys my only definate must do was to go to the house of Mozart. It was pretty cool. The audioplayer was in English and each room's message would play for so long that we'd end up sitting on a bench to finish listening to it. It started on the 4th ... read more
