Some photos from around Hvar town. One thing I noticed about Hvar was how clean it was. Dubrovnik was quite dirty in places and there was a lot of litter around. I don't recall seeing any litter at all on Hvar. Hvar was also very laid back, in spite of being a major tourist destination, and the people, to me anyway, seemed much friendlier than most of the people we came across in Dubrovnik. I would go back there in an instant!!!!!... read more

OK.........I know, I'm waxing a bit lyrical........but sue me, I'm on holiday on a beautiful island with the most beautiful people. The national past time it seems........for everyone except me and Jeff, is lying on the beach baking all day. Consequently most people are sporting tans to die for. I say it is heaven because last night I went dancing again. Jeff came with me this time but didn't come down and dance. So I just started dancing by myself again and soon had a New Yorker I had spoken to the first time I was there dancing with me. I taught him some real quick ceroc type moves and we had everyone cheering us on. It was great. He thanked me tonnes and said he had a ball and had never danced like that before ... read more

Leaving the hostel in the morning and took the bus to the bus station instead of walking with my backpack. Purchased an one-way ticket to Split and when the backpack was collected and put under belly of the bus, there was extra charge for the luggage. Nice ! Got on the bus and occupied the first seat on the first row so I had a panoramic view of the entire ride. We was asked to present travel documentation (passport) at the border checkpoint. Was I on the wrong bus ? I thought I bought the ticket from Dubrovnik to Split. Where was the bus heading ? It turned out there is a portion of the highway is cutting through Bosnia or perhaps the driver deliberately wanted to drive into Bosnia for cheap food before continuing onto ... read more

Hi all It is now Sunday night and we are on our second night here in Hvar. Last night was fantastic for me. I heard some dance music, booming across the harbour and made it my mission to find exactly where it was coming from. It was totally my type of disco, ceroc mix and eventually I tracked it down. Then I totally surprised myself by just going to the bar and joining in with the dancing. I was by myself. Jeff was too tired to join me. Well I had the bestest time. I just got down and boogied my pants off, much to the delight it seemed of the very young crowd who were there. I danced with lots of young guys and girls, who all insisited on getting their picture taken with me.....at ... read more

Geo: 42.858, 17.5123Finally we were able to board the ferry. Our tickets were deck, which meant that we had to find a chair to sleep in or some carpet. We found some carpet. It was cool, so I used my towels as blankets. While we slept we breathed in the fresh air of cigarette and cigar smoke. Got a few hours sleep until everyone got up this morning at 6am and began talking loudly! At about 7 we could see Croatia and 40 minutes later we docked. I said goodbye to Megan and met the guy from the hostel who was picking me up. The hostel is in a great location with an excellent view of the peninsula. It is run by a Croatian family. I was so tired that I had a nap until about ... read more

I had long dreamed of going to Croatia since I saw one of those beautiful bird-eye view photos of the old town by the blue Adriatic sea in travel magazines. So I had made my effort to visit this small country of the former Yugoslavia Republic. I did not know what to expect and I did not do much research of it before leaving the States. Anyway, after a few days in Bergen, I finally managed to leave the wonderful city. I did not do much of any sightseeing in my last day except to go out to the firsh market to get some fresh cooked shrimps and do my own cooking at the hostel kitchen. Then asking the receptionist which would be the shortest way to the airport bus stop to catch the bus to ... read more

Nope I lie, actually it has been pissing down, thunder, lightening the whole works. I had just written a huge blog then the dam internet went down and I lost the lot so this will be short and sweet. The bus journey from Dubrovnik to Split was amazing. The scenery is spectular, big mountains, blue sea, picturesque villages and towns. We got here and were nearly mobbed by women trying to rent us their rooms. We eventually decided on one in the old town. For the two of us we had to pay 300 kuna, much more than we wanted but no one would negioate the price. It seems the going rate is 150 kuna per person and that is it. The place was nice and clean and right in town near the palace so that ... read more

OK folks, I apologise in advance for typos etc. It is 10 pm, Jeff is down in the square somewhere listening to music from an outdoor cafe and I am here trying to get a few words down.....so I remember....while drinking red wine out of a coke bottle......ha ha ha and yes I am serious. OK.........Des........the whole of the main walk way here in the old town of Dubrovnik is a Ceroc dancers heaven. The big stone slabs (marble, limestone, not sure what) are so worn with the trillions of tourists that pass through here that the surface is so slippery it is incredible. I am now in my black ceroc dance skirt and flat, boring shoes (so I could walk from our pad to the town without killing my feet) and even in these shoes ... read more
