Hi Everybody! We drove over a twisting, mountain road to get to Bosnia Herzegovina. Not long after we crossed the border, we started seeing bombed out houses. We rode by the Neretva River passing many fields of grapes. Our destination was Mostar, a city situated at the base of a mountain range. This city has a thriving Muslim community and a large Catholic community. Over half of the buildings had bullet and shrapnel holes. Some buildings were just a shell, others had collapsed roofs, and others had the doors and windows shot out. A large Catholic church downtown had hundreds of bullet-shrapnel holes. We went to the Old Town and saw the stone bridge which has recently been rebuilt after being destroyed in the last war. It really touched our hearts to see this city with ... read more

Deciding to see the countries of eastern europe along the adriatic sea was as much about adventure as it was about escaping the summertime tourists. we were rewarded for it as soon as we crossed into slovenia from italy. we were treated to open roads with vast expanses of beauty through all three of the countries. slovenia sadly serves as more of a buffer of connecting roads for croatia than a true host to tourists but nevertheless, a beautiful country of well preserved forests and lakes. croatia is the gem of the 3 with so much coastline and beautiful parks to visit. we spent a day exploring the largest national park they had at plitvicka jezera, one of the most pristine and magical places i have seen with my own eyes. river fed pools that sparkle ... read more

Hele spetakkelet saa litt ut ... read more

I was in Bosnia last year but only had chance to visit Mostar. This year I only had time to visit Sarajevo but unfortunately seeing as my camera was broken here are a few snaps from 2006. One thing that struck me in Sarajevo, that was present in Mostar but not to the same extent, are the constant reminders of the war. I appreciate that Sarajevo was under siege for three years and four months and must have been a living hell after the Bosnian Serb military commander, Ratko Mladic, gave the order: “Shoot at slow intervals until I order you to stop. Shell them until they can’t sleep, don’t stop until they are on the edge of madness.” As well as the part demolished buildings; seemingly every block of flats is covered in bullet holes ... read more

Oh wow.....still all signs of destruction from the war...Mostar is beautiful! Tourism is big...but not overdone....so far I have only been to one side of the river...I heard one side is dominated by Croatians and the other side by Bosniaks.....will see tomorrow. My day was basically waiting at the youth hostel in Dubrovnik....where..the camera arrived after noon. Thank god at last it came..though...another story behind that and I cant be bothered to mention anymore...its done and over. If this camera dies again...its gonna be sent HOME. Went to Bosnia by bus... Unbelievable....I remember when I was in form 1 or 2....hearing about the war in Yugoslavia...still didnt know about where it actually is....and then Sammi Cheng had this song about Sarajevo... On the bus..I just kept thinking about how much I know about this country... ... read more

It is the only place that I have ever been that lives up to my expectations of beauty and paradise! I will post pictures once I get home. Well Friday we had our camp in Gradacac (GRAH-DAH-CHATZ) and there were over 300 kids there! Fantastic right??? We split the story group into two and had two stories going on simultaneously... it worked out really well. One of my group members, Shay, led the story. She was really nervous but ended up doing wonderfully! I could not be prouder. The camp went AMAZINGLY smooth. Lunch didn't get messed up and the rotations went really well. We really could not have wished for anything more. My first group of ... read more

Again... I apologize because the y and z are switched on this keyboard... you are going to have to flip most of them yourselves... SORRY So let me see where I left off... Wednesdaz we had a camp in Donja Mahala... that was one of mz favorite camps from last zear. I think it will be one of mz favorites this zear! I loved it. There was the CUTEST little boz in our last group. We need kids to act like different kinds of animals and one of the animals was a Puppy. So this little boy volunteered and I asked him to act like an excited puppz and he just went nutz! It was so adorable. The high pitched barkin and all that jazz. SO CUTE... I cannot even describe it. The camp was just ... read more
