After breakfast I head to the bus stop to catch my ride to Weizern, which is where I will pick up the train to Munich. The entire journey to Munich is just over 2 hours, and from there another hour and a half to Salzburg. In Munich at the main station I spot a Starbucks. (Note to Jeff - there are Starbucks in Germany). I make my way to the next train, which is only a few tracks away, board and find my reserved seat. This is a nonstop to Salzburg. We depart Munich on time at 11:26. Around noon, I head to the dining car for lunch. I choose pasta - not much on the menu for sure. It was OK - nothing to write home about, and definitely took care of stifling the hunger ... read more

Salzburg is awesome. Salzburg is a very walkable town, and with our hotel being in the old section of town, it is very easy to navigate to the most interesting sites in the city. The Christmas markets are just a few blocks away. The first hint we were near the action wasn't the aroma of sausages and gluhwein, but of the horses - that pull the carriages around town that base at Residence Platz. When we walk into Residenceplatz there were market stalls all around, with garland, lights and a huge decorated tree in the middle. In Austria I learn that the "specialty" Christmas trinket is a cluster of arranged cinnamon sticks, anise, cloves, ribbons of gold and other colors, bundled in small balls. Not only are they great to smell, but they make wonderful Christmas ... read more

We are leaving for Prague tomorrow and had a free day.. We visited Hechem and his wife Samar at their salon.. as always they were being very generous and asked if I wanted to get my hair done.. I gave in (twist my arm..right?).. It was such a treat! specially since the hot water at the apt lasts all of 6 mins and it's always quiet the challenge to wash my hair. Samar washed and massaged my head for 15 mins!!!! I was in heaven.. She then cut layers and blow dried it.. It really was a wonderful treat! Hashim had finished up with a customer and he motioned David to a chair for a haircut.. we are all ready for our trip to Prague with brand new fancy do's..we are very lucky! After promising to ... read more

Tuesday Dec 12th It was a relatively nice day in Vienna.. still freezing cold..but it looked like the sun was making a genuine attempt at gracing us with her presence..so we decided to take a stroll towards the Schonbrunn Castle. We had heard that there was a garden maze, a zoo, and the old faithful- a Christmas market within the castle... Armed with the GPS we hit the streets of Vienna. The walk was supposed to be an easy 15-20 min walk..after about an hour and 15 mins we saw the grand doors of the castle :) Although the walk took longer than accepted, the GPS did not fail us a bit and it actually was a very nice walk in new neighborhoods. The Schonbrunn Castle looked impressive from the courtyard.. and we made a mental ... read more

I ended up renting a car and driving from Ljubljana to Vienna to meet the Two Gallants and catch their show in Vienna. Tyson and I had talked about me coming with them on their tourbus for a few nights but we never exactly worked out the details. Well like and idiot I got a return rental car to Vienna and found myself deciding to hop on the bus at the last minute to head to Frankfurt. Now of course to change a return rental to a one way car rental was going to cost me 250 euros, so I found the next best thing which was an underground parking garage that in german seemed to say 4 euros per hour. This was going to be totally expensive but certainly cheaper than switching the car rental ... read more

The Italians are coming! The Italians are coming! Yes, yes... this is a joke. We just arrived back from an amazing (yet wet) trip to Salzburg, Austria. In which we traveled by train on the OOB. The total trip took 3 hours with about 5 stops. Upon arrival at Salzburg main station, we grabbed the local Bus 3 to Old Town (aka New Italy). I say this because as soon as we stepped off the bus in Old Town there was no longer German anywhere being spoken. Apparently the first two weekends in December the town is besieged by tourists, which happened to be about 90% Italian. This is no big deal for a beautiful place with the local charm of the quant Christmas welcoming Salzburg. The problem was that due to the droves of visitors ... read more

We arrived in Vienna approximetly a week ago.. and what a week has it been!! Both Dave and I got pretty sick... I had clear symptoms of the flu when we left LA..and it got horribly worst in Vienna.. and to make things even more exciting I managed to pass on my good fortune to my better half...things weren't all bad though..we managed to locate all the pharmacy's in our neighborhood.. and learned very quickly that Vienese have a soft spot for homeopathic medicine :) Our trip to Vienna was ok... Swiss air definetly has it's plus'.. but similar to most airlines.. not enough leg room.. specially if you live in a 6 foot body... Dave was not a happy man after about 6 hours in that seat.. and we had another 5 to go..ouch! We ... read more

Hello there everyone. Sorry for the lack of communication recently but we've been really busy. We got jobs fairly easily in a ski resort here in Austria which is called St. Anton. The company is a small upmarket one with a few chalets. I got a job as a nanny for some weeks, when a family who have booked one come to stay, and a chalet host (general skivvy) at other times. Simon is a resort rep and driver. There was not much need to stay in Innsbruck any longer and we felt at a loose end in the caravan. There was talk of my Dad coming to visit at some point so we started to research flights. Before you know it, we had found some cheap ones from Innsbruck to Gatwick and booked them for ... read more
