Ohé! Ohé! Moussaillons!

Located at the bottom of the Leeward Islands just above the Windward Islands, Guadeloupe is an accessible cruising destination in the Caribbean. Guadeloupe has up-to-date yachting facilities and several ports of entry. Travelers can also explore a number of the small outlying islands while cruising the area. see; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guadeloupe Guadeloupe is a lively center of Creole culture, boasting a spirited blend of French and African influences. As well known for its sugar and rum as for its dive sites and resorts, the archipelago offers an interesting mix of modern cities, rural hamlets, rain forests and secluded beaches. See: http://www.antilles-info-tourisme.com/guadeloupe/p2-in-gb.htm We made it Bas du Fort, called them on VHF radio, we needed diesel and gasoline badly. Maribel struggle with the French, finally getting a lady that spoke fairly well. We went in, fue... read more

We traveled down the lee side of the Coast, visiting a couple of anchorages. Basseterre anchorage is not well protected. There was a commercial boat anchored and another at the dock. This area is tallest in the country and gets the most of amount of rain. Arrived in the Saintes late in the afternoon still flying the Q (quarentine) flag. We stayed 2 nights there, trying to decide what to do about the alternator. Pete had installed the spare, but we still having problems, can't get over 40 amps output, so it takes forever to charge the batteries. We dinghies into town, walked around, found an ice cream store, yummy. Found a place called Mikes hamburger on a side street. We decided we had not had a hamburger since the Bahamas, let's go for it. Us ... read more

We sailed down the lee side of Monserrat, saw more of the damage to the island. There is an exclusion area of 1.5 KM however, we stayed 2 miles to the West. It was a delightful sail for a change. Smooth seas, 18 knots from the East. Once we got to South side the winds went to 6 knots from the West, very strange. As the trade winds blow from E to SE. Once we turned toward Deshaies, the wind was at our back, in came the jib, and we turned on the engine. We had an alternator belt break. Seas were 3 to 4 footers. Arrived in Deshaies around 1400 hours. We went into town to do customs, to find a note on door, saying they were close till....Oh well, seems some of these islands ... read more

Hi Everyone!! Finally iv arrived in Guadeloupe, an amazing island in the middle of the carribean!! Please excuse the typos as im using a european keyboard which is different to those in Aus! Where do I begin, so far iv been to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and Puerto Rico! Los Angeles wasnt exactly the glam I expected of Hollywoods "Hub" in the world! The Hostel we stayed at though pretty much made our time there... LA is pretty dirty and dingy to put it mildly...although the people where surprisingly very nice considering the number of tourists wandering around. Hollywood Boulevard where we stayed was always alive at night and looked like a hole by day but admittedly the best entertainment was by far watching the "excentric" characters that seemed to be everywhere in ... read more

Excursion du dimanche Central America Caribbean » Guadeloupe » Basse Terre By OxalieMay 20th 2007 Holà! Je suis touj... read more
