Arhhhhhhhhh life in Montezuma... I realise why people keep coming back for more. It is just such a liveable town. Yes it is small and everyone knows everyone elses business, but it is nice to have so many friends so close and you meet new people who come to visit the town daily! Such good vibes in this lil coastal surf spot! During my last couple of months in Montezuma I was lucky enough to visit Isla Tortuga (or Turtle Island), where unfortunately we didn't actually see any turtles however we had a fantastic day snorkelling, playing beach volleyball, eating and relaxing on a gorgeous beach. I visited Isla Tortuga with 4 other girlfriends, Steph, Amy, Codi and Jen and we had a super fun day together! I also experienced a canopy tour with Suntrails (lots ... read more

Buenos dias from Costa Rica!! I was all excited to continue with my past blog entries under the same user name (kmclain) but apparently I used my accenture email address and forgot the password...boooo. I guess I should have signed up a new blog as ksteffen - ooops, that one has not stuck in my head yet. That's right....I am no longer a Senorita. I must say the first trip as a Mrs. has been quite great thus far. This is the first time I have ever blogged sitting outside in 90+ weather surrounded by singing birds, a beautiful pool, leaping lizards, and my husband reading a book next to me. :) We made it to San Jose without any problem, and were able to catch a ride to the Marriott hotel we stayed our first ... read more

Hi again from the lovely surf town of Santa Teresa. Still living the beach life which consists of a lot of surfing, reading, more surfing and perhaps some serious lying around. Tough life. But I have managed to do some cultural outings. After I got to montezuma, I rented a bike in town and biked the 9km to Cabo Blanco, one of Costa Rica's first National parks. The bike ride was beautiful. Right along the ocean on one side and lot's of beautiful farmland on the other. And because it's a dirt road and in the dry season the dust can be unbearable, so they dump molases on top of the dirt in order to settle the cloud that inevitably kicks up as numerous SUV's and fourwheelers cruise by at top speed. But in the sun, ... read more

Hola from the sweltering country of Costa Rica. Man is it hot here! I guess that´s what happens when you go to Central America in the middle of the dry season. After a month, I finally left San Juan Del Sur but not without some trepidation. Absolutely loved the beaches, people, food...you name it. Also, finally broke down and bought a surf board. It´s a great used board that I rented from the nicest man in Nicaragua (Manuel...you´re the bomb!). After about a week on this board I was completely in love with it and convinced Manuel to sell it to me which he did for a steal of a deal. It´s nice and short too so not so much lugging around. There is a reason why travel guides are just a ¨guide¨. My book claims ... read more

so after a 50 dollar taxi ride and a 75 km bus ride that took three and a half hours we finally made it to tamarindo. a little town town with a huge tourist facelift! its rather depressing. picture whistler but for surfers. needless to say we are not sticking around we are leaving today for nicaragua. gonna go check out the beaches up there and maybe to a language school... the weather hasnt been getting better but its ok. weve been traveling a lot in the last few days so its not a big deal when it raining and youre on the bus. this country and seriously beautiful! and now i cant wait to explore nicaragua.... read more

I am writing to you from rainy rainy santa teresa, costa rica. it rains at least 8 hours a day at the same rate of the worst rainy day of the year in victoria...it is so rainy that our bus got stuck on the way here in the ditch and we had to hail a 4x4 cab in the pouring rain. this morning we got a tiny bit of sun and in the 30- minute window we both got burned. this town is wonderful other than the rain, ....nothing but kms of beaches that are practically deserted. we weathered the no baggage issue well, but i am so relieved to finally have my stuff...although i am realizing how little 'stuff' there actually is..i need to shop for disgustingly skimpy clothes apparently...every body here dresses in as ... read more

Sometimes things happen and a person just has to shake their head and ask, “How the…and why the …am I so lucky.” As you’ve read in our last entry I have accepted a job at a private school. Prior to making the decision I went and visited two private schools in the Playa Flamingo area. Unfortunately both had fulfilled their staffing needs for the time being. However, my visit to Country Day School turned out to be a rather excellent experience. First I must tell you that the campus has just had a two million dollar renovation. I guess at 15K per student for a year of school they can afford it. Owen will not be attending!!! I had shown up unannounced and was curious as to why there was so many people driving up as ... read more

As many of you have read the past few days, actually weeks, have been a whirlwind of new and interesting adventures. Since reviewing the comments and looking over our last couple of entries it seems like the last day of August would best be spent taking it easy…if a person can do that with two young and enthusiastic children in tow. We really have appreciated the comments and private messages. Nataghia and I were discussing our predisposition (addiction) to using the internet. We have decided that as long as it is keeping us in contact with our friends and family we have no problem with needing the computer and all its wonders. Did I mention how much we love the comments and hearing from everyone? As previously decided we did take a day off from any ... read more

After spending the longest period of time of my life without travelling to another country (10 months), dad took me to Costa Rica. It was a fast trip, only for 3 days/2 nights. It started out kinda rough as we were delayed for over 2 hours in the plane in Miami, and arrived too late to catch our connecting flight in Costa Rica. It worked out okay because Dennis (dad's highschool friend) met us at the airport, and we took a 2 hour taxi, then a 1 1/2 hour boat ride, then a short taxi ride and we arrived to paradise....Curu Wildlife Reserve. It was a place were dad studied howler monkeys 17 years ago, and has visited many times since, but not in the last 10 years. It was awesome!!!! Monkeys all over the ... read more
