Hi Everyone! It's officially to hot to be outside and I am seeking refuge in an internet cafe. I'm in Exmouth which if you haven't heard of it before, I don't blame you. It's tiny and in the middle of nowhere, but beautiful. But how about I tell you how I got here first. So I spent about a week in Perth which honestly was a perfect amount of time. I did two amazing dives off Rottnest island which were great. The water is temperate (so wetsuits were essential!) but a tropical current comes down the coast which makes for interesting coral and some good sea life as well. King's park was a great way to spend the day and I did a walking tour with a naturalist who pointed out all the amazing flora that ... read more

Down and Under Hello there! Finally, my first OZ-blog. I've just been so busy soaking in the Tam Tam's and wine that I haven't had a chance to write. But i'm sitting in my hostel in Perth waiting for my shuttle bus to take me to the beach and thought I would jot down a few words. So let's see...what have I been doing? The Great Ocean Road A day after a very long flight from LA, Alex, myself and a few of her friends rented a car and did a classic road trip to the Great Ocean Road, about 4 hours outside of Melbourne. It was amazing! Sorry I don't have photo's to post here but they are on my facebook page. The weather was so-so but the views were not. Quite surreal really. ... read more

I made it to Buenos Aires! But not without a whole lot of adventure of course... After Cartagena, I stayed on the Caribbean coast and ended up in the small-ish town of Santa Marta. We arrived at the hostel (I was still travelling with the Irish girls I met on the boat from Panama) and we were each given a drawing of a vagina and were told to hang on to these for later. What the...? Turns out it was international woman´s day and some people at the hostel were putting on a concert with games (hence the vag drawings) to comemorate the day. Needless to say it was an interesting introduction to ¨The Miramar,¨one of the older hostels in Colombia. Went to Tayrona park, a beautiful tropical paradise outside of Santa Marta. You have to ... read more

Well needless to say it´s been an adventures few weeks. San Jose was a lot different than I remember it from 8 years ago. A lot more cosmopolitan. Did some good shopping and some good wandering. But after a few days, started to get the beach urge again. Made my way to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. It is amazing just how different the Caribbean is from the Pacific, visually and culturally. Stayed at this cool but very crowded hostel called rocking J´s. It´s only tents and hammaks and they packed the people in. I think it has space for about 300 people. Basically didn´t sleep because of the noise. Tried to do some surfing but it was either non existant or on Salsa Brava which is a wave here that is big and over ... read more

Hi again from the lovely surf town of Santa Teresa. Still living the beach life which consists of a lot of surfing, reading, more surfing and perhaps some serious lying around. Tough life. But I have managed to do some cultural outings. After I got to montezuma, I rented a bike in town and biked the 9km to Cabo Blanco, one of Costa Rica's first National parks. The bike ride was beautiful. Right along the ocean on one side and lot's of beautiful farmland on the other. And because it's a dirt road and in the dry season the dust can be unbearable, so they dump molases on top of the dirt in order to settle the cloud that inevitably kicks up as numerous SUV's and fourwheelers cruise by at top speed. But in the sun, ... read more

Hola from the sweltering country of Costa Rica. Man is it hot here! I guess that´s what happens when you go to Central America in the middle of the dry season. After a month, I finally left San Juan Del Sur but not without some trepidation. Absolutely loved the beaches, people, food...you name it. Also, finally broke down and bought a surf board. It´s a great used board that I rented from the nicest man in Nicaragua (Manuel...you´re the bomb!). After about a week on this board I was completely in love with it and convinced Manuel to sell it to me which he did for a steal of a deal. It´s nice and short too so not so much lugging around. There is a reason why travel guides are just a ¨guide¨. My book claims ... read more

Hey everyone...sorry I suck at this blogging thing. All is good, still in San Juan Del Sur. Really great place with lot´s of amazing people. I´ve been staying on the neighbouring beach at a campsite/hostel called Matilda´s. Absolutely stunning beach with barely anyone on it. At night I fall asleep to the sound of crashing waves and crazy howler monkeys. The surfing is great but I am getting the snot kicked out of me. I was all cocky and rented a really short board and basically got tumbled in the whitewash all day long. But after many bruised shins I finally got the hang of it and could somewhat hold my own...in the much smaller waves of course. Than the other day I took a nice nasty spill and broke my fin off my board which ... read more

I finally made it off Utila island but not without some troubles. A huge storm came in and i´m convinced the boat captians just go whenever they want willy nilly so the boat didn´t run for three days which doesn´t seem like a long time but when it´s pouring rain and there is nothing to do but stare at each other it can seem endless. The ride itself was fun for me but I don´t get seasick so I was all good but most of the boat was throwing up. Good times. Getting out of Honduras was an adventure in itself. Got a bus right off the boat to Tegucicalpa (the capital of Honduras). Not the nicest city in the world. Saw many packs of roving dogs eating garbage on the streets. What a beautiful ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Honduras » Bay Islands » Utila December 23rd 2007

Hi everyone...still in Honduras! I just can't leave this island...I've decided to stay here for Xmas. The divemasters have invited me to dinner and it sounds like it's going to be a feast and huge party so I couldn't pass it up. I'll hopefully make it to Nicaragua soon as I am looking forward to surfing. Still diving lots, seeing tons of cool stuff. I really can't wait to dive all over the world, very addictive. Not much else going on. I usually get up at 6am to get on the boat and dive until lunch. The afternoon is mostly spent on a random hammok. What a tough life. I've been trying to upload photos but the computers are really slow and it's costly so they might have to wait. Happy christmas everyone, I doubt ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Honduras » Bay Islands » Utila December 15th 2007

Hey everyone, i´m in honduras in the Bay Islands getting my ass kicked by rain. But as of tomorrow i am a certified diver and am absolutely loving it. I went with underwater visions which is a great dive place on utila and for $230 I get my open water certification, 4 nights accomodation in this great dorm on the ocean and 2 free fun dives. Plus the people and instructors are great. So much so that i´ve decided to stay on an extra four days and do my advanced open water. Just can´t get enough! The island is nice but the weather could be better and there is a whole lot of drugs and partying. There is this one bar where they have a nitrous bar so that you can do ballons of nitrous and ... read more
