After rather a lot of travelling, we have now made our first Port of Call, although that was doubtful as rough seas prevented us dropping anchor and tendering ashore in the ?Caribbean!!! However Captain found a sheltered bay off the southern coast, and with the help of local tourist boats, and a shuttle service we have now found our way ashore and to the local library!!! The good thing is it has moved since our last visit and is now in a brand new building with excellent internet access! After a great New Year in Bristol with Katie, Jo Jeremy and the children, I set off on tuesday morning for Heathrow on the National Express bus!! along with my bag of "don't mind if I do" from Sally, and after a rather eventful checking in process ... read more

Visited December 7th, 2010 by Carnival Valor. The waters were a little rough so we ended up coming in at Spot Bay rather than the usual cruise port. Guess we're not shopping here. We were still picked up by a guide that was previously booked. Note to everyone, book your excursions before leaving home for half the price. Our excursion brought us to Stingray city with Soto's Tours. Both young guides were wonderful. The owner was not so polite or perhaps just sick of doing tours. They say if you kiss a stingray, you have seven years good luck, I figure if you kiss it on your birthday, you must be good for life. Off to the snorkeling, first time for my daughters and husband, someone had to stay in the boat and videotape, guess who? ... read more

Grand Cayman Same ship different day. At least it began that way… Until I got a hickey on my toe. The waters of the the Cayman Islands are the most beautiful I've ever seen. We booked a stingray excursion thru the ship but the night before we were scheduled to depart it was canceled. So we decided to look for one once we hit the island. After wading thru the usual duty free shops we walked on the waterfront area of George Town. That's when we saw the sign for Captain Marvin's. I had been told about Captain Marvin and his amazing tour of Stingray City from a co-worker but had somehow forgotten. We were able to walk up and book the excursion for a fraction of the price of the one thru the ship ... read more

Since we were flying home today, we woke up early and went down to get breakfast right when they opened at 7am. Our flight was at 1pm so we figured to have a couple of hours down at Seven Mile Beach. The weather was looking to be perfect this day but it did feel a little warmer than the previous days. We just walked up and down the beach and went for a little dip in the clear blue water. It was hard to leave, but we made our way back to the hotel room at about 10am and prepared our bags. We got a taxi to GCM airport at 11am and arrived there about 20 minutes later. Our flight to Atlanta was wide open for stand by travel, having about 70 open seats. Those are ... read more

We had an excursion to Sting Ray City planned for today, at 8:30am. The tour operator called and said that he'd rather put us on the 11:30am because it would be less crowded and so we were fine with that. We just went down and ate some breakfast and lounged around the hotel until then. At about 10:50am, we were picked up by the company's bus and taken over to the yacht club for the boat ride. I booked the excursion with Moby Dick Tours because it seemed to have the best reviews. It was about a 20 minute boat ride out there, in which we stopped at a reef first for 30 minutes of snorkeling. They provided all the equipment, beverages, sunscreen, and a fresh water shower aboard the boat. It was a smooth and ... read more

We awoke around 7am and went down to get the breakfast that the hotel provides. I had some waffles, potatoes, and a bagel. Lots of starch! After, we walked across to the beach and stayed there until after 5pm, just taking about an hour at noon to go back to the room and eat lunch. The snorkeling was fantastic and I was able to go way off shore to the reef. I saw lots of colorful fish and the highlight was seeing a cuttlefish. We all got a bit too much sun and were really tired after the long day out there. For dinner, we went for some Indian food at Gateway of India. We had some chicken korma and some chicken kerala with naan. It was very good! After dinner we went to the market ... read more

Our trip to the Cayman Islands has come upon us and the first day was an adventure just to get there. The flight loads for nonrev travel had looked good for weeks and even with less than 24 hours to go, the plane had nearly 30 open seats. Well.........I checked again on Saturday afternoon and what is this? The flight from Indianapolis to Atlanta is now severely overbooked? After some research, I found out that they cancelled an Indianapolis to Atlanta flight on Saturday afternoon and it rolled everyone back, back, back! I was thinking we would lose a day in paradise but I am really good at finding alternate routes. So.........we drove two hours west to Bloomington, Illinois and caught a nonstop to Atlanta. The Bloomington airport has free parking too so that was a ... read more

Laid back and Leisurely My husband has been telling me for nearly nine years that Grand Cayman Island is the most beautiful place on earth. For his 40th birthday I was going to rent out a go-cart track for him and all of his buddies and found out it was going to cost about $3000. I had been saving for a while so it wasn't really the money that I was worried about, but I just kept asking myself, "What am I going to get out of this?" Just kidding, but it didn't take too long before I convinced myself that "Hey, we never went on a honeymoon. Heck, we've never gone anywhere alone with each other." Could we actually make it a whole vacation with just the two of us? The answer after returning from ... read more
