Getting here was half the fun

Our trip to the Cayman Islands has come upon us and the first day was an adventure just to get there.

The flight loads for nonrev travel had looked good for weeks and even with less than 24 hours to go, the plane had nearly 30 open seats.

Well.........I checked again on Saturday afternoon and what is this? The flight from Indianapolis to Atlanta is now severely overbooked?

After some research, I found out that they cancelled an Indianapolis to Atlanta flight on Saturday afternoon and it rolled everyone back, back, back! I was thinking we would lose a day in paradise but I am really good at finding alternate routes.

So.........we drove two hours west to Bloomington, Illinois and caught a nonstop to Atlanta. The Bloomington airport has free parking too so that was a big help.

We flew Delta Connection flight 5090 and were seated in first class seats 3A, 3B, and 3C. It was a smooth and routine flight of just over an hour on a CRJ-700 aircraft. Once in Atlanta, we had about an hour wait for the connection to Grand Cayman.

At 10:10 am we departed on Delta 687 to Grand Cayman and were in business class. I had seat 2D. This flight was also smooth and routine and took about 2 hours. We flew south over Florida and Cuba and then on into GCM airport. I usually have the chicken wrap but decided to try the chicken fajita salad. I think I will stick with the wrap next time. I also had my usual gin and tonic to drink.

We arrived into GCM at noon and did not get outside until well after 1pm. The line for immigration was horrible, with all the early afternoon flights arriving at once!

We took a taxi to Georgetown so I could make my visit to the Hard Rock Cafe. It was my 100th Hard Rock Cafe visited and it turns out this location was the 100th HRC opened. We then went by taxi to our hotel in the Seven Mile Beach area---the Sunshine Suites.

My wife took a nap but my daughter and I headed off to the beach. We swam for a couple of hours and it felt so wonderful!

In the evening, we went to eat at a place called Chicken Chicken and had some awesome jerk chicken and all the sides. I highly recommend this place!

All stuffed and ready for bed now!
