having fun
Hi Quinn & Randi . Yes , we get all your blogs as I check quite often and phone to tell others there is a new to look for. We are pleased to hear you are keeping the car longer as we know how easy it is to see more with it . You sure are doing that. Wonderful. Presume Quinn recovered on the way back to land as that is how it worked for grandpa when he went fishing in Texas years ago. Keep on having a good time.xo grandma

HI NANCY AGAIN :)
We just read your other message and we think your cute! HI NANCY :)
Lol no we dont eat baboon.. hahaha i am sure some people would tho! YUCK! You can prepare the meat pretty much anyway you like. We ate the croc in breaded/deep fried form, the ostrich in sausage form and the springbok in a pate form... We usually make our own food, but have been trying things along the way. All the camping/hostel places so far have had a kitchen for the guest to use! It is alot cheaper! We went to an elephant sanctury about a week ago and got to feed them and we walked trunk in hand with them. It was AWESOME! we are excited to see them on a game drive tho... fingers crossed! We are glad that you are doing well, and having fun! Have a great night with your friends in Francis. We have been meeting so many great people, it is really a great experience! We just finishing a night of camping with zebras... seriously there were 2 right beside us. it was great! miss you and glad to hear from you. love ya too! Randi and Quinn :) xo

Does everything taste like chicken?
I checked out the springbok gazelle on Goggle and have seen them in National Geographic documentaries. Wow, they can run up to 90 km/hr! I'm curious how you would prepare springbok or ostrich? Grilled? BBQ? Does one eat baboon? Do you eat at restaurants or prepare your own? Are you meeting people along the way? What a different land! I was down in Francis with Mom & Dad today for Andrea's skating carnival. She's one of the senior skaters and does some assistant coaching. It was so great to see some of the people I grew up with and then see ALL the little skaters. That town is really growing. I am indebted to Andrea for inviting me to come, as I won the 50/50 draw of $100. I am lucky! And Ross made me a 'rink' cheeseburger! It was delicious. We're back to Francis next weekend for the Francis Dinner Theatre. I have 2 tables full of friends who love to join me for a night in my hometown! Eileen will be doing some 'performing' in the comedy, so I'm looking forward to having a great night out! Let us know when you see your first elephant. It was so fun to have Mom & Dad telling me stories of their African trips from so many years ago. We'll be doing that with you for years to come! Love ya'

hi
We just got back 2 days ago from trip and trying to catch up. have heard about you from family . i am going to look for pics after I write this. Thinking of you lots. Tana was close to earthquake in Australia and missed by 6-7 days ( was in same area hit hard before hit). Australia will have all the bad things out of it's system by the time you get there. if you have an itinerary of Australia for place you are at and the dates you will be in area, we might be able to swing 2 weeks . Benn wants to go at christmas so give us all the dates as we have to see the availability of timeshare places and month may go to whats available. It was great to talk on phone. we can call you in some countries- did I give you the list? Africa is on. read about you soon. love Mom

africa so far
feb 24 Pay when one enters a public park. We did not go to any private expensive parks where they drive you to where the animals are. Have to register to stay over in the enclosure & probably have to pay there too. We paid 24 rand for our motorhome in 1993 for 2 nites in Shingwidzi where ever that is in the north end of Kruger. There are small grocery stores and restaurants, sometimes pools and of course facilities. If you do not have air conditioning put wet towels over your knees with the windows open & that keeps you cool. The rules are to not get out of your vehicle . They mean it. [windows open & full blast air in car grandpa says] Also says reserve park like Kruger. Last time I get him to look over my shoulder. The pics are great. We missed the penguins on our trip. 30 below. love, grandma
24th February 2011

Wow! Beautiful scenery!
I had no idea penguins were in such a hot country. The Antarctica was where I thought they lived, except when they were in a zoo! Just writing that makes me sound like the people who ask if Canadians live in igloos! Do the penguins seem friendly (unless they are sitting on some eggs!)? And that blue water! And the blue sky! I thought Hawaii was beautiful, and it is, but no wonder Mom & Dad went back to South Africa so many times! I'm picking your Mom & Dad up on Monday. Thank goodness I only had to shovel snow once from their driveway. That's a big driveway! It looks like Vader is enjoying his vacation, too. He'll stay with me only on Sunday, as he's having so much fun at Mom & Dads. Thanks for the great pictures. We can just see the freedom you are feeling with the use of your own car. Love ya'

feb 23 late at night looking at your pics . So happy you are having a wonderful time with your car. That is the way to go. A cpl of days ago I sent 1 comment and grandpa sent 1 also but the computer keeps saying there are none. Vader still with us . we are becoming quite attached . He is very polite. I said in last message not to sit too far back on the ostrich or you will fall off. Love to you both, grandma

HI GRANDMA AND GRANDPA
Feb 23rd, Happy birthday to mom!!! :) Thanks for your ideas. We are going to the caves tomorrow, and we were only going to do the first part, but now we will do the whole thing!! :) On friday we will ride an ostrich, hehe thanks for the tips. I (randi) think I may freak out hahah, and we hope quinn is light enough to try too!!! So far we have seen the Penguins at boulders beach, went to the very southern most point of Africa, camped at Victoria bay, overlooking the bay, and today we went to the cango wildlife ranch!! Having your own vehicle is waaaay better!!! For the reserves, were they really expensive just to do for the day, or how did they work... they should be pretty much the same now, just more money haha. We hate ticks... and hopefully we dont get one... we really REALLY like hearing from you guys so often. we are posting pictures today, and we will update you guys everytime we are able to use a computer. Love you both sooo much and miss you! Hope Vader is being a good boy, hug him for us!!! Randi and Quinn xoxoxoxo

Hi Quinn & Randi Feb 20 We travelled Kruger National Park twice by motorhome and once by car. Camps are all fenced in to keep the animals out. People were there in tents. North from Durban are Umfolozi, Hluhluwe and Mkuze Game Reserves all by car. A new game reserve was just opening up in 1993 called Itala which we found very interesting .It is not on any of our maps but it was after we left Swaziland going south. Grandmas notes says we got permission to go at Louveld but I cannot find that on a map either. After we left Itala we went to Mkuze game reserve. North of Port Elizabeth was where we saw our first elephants [Dura I think JA] The one that looked in the back window of our motorhome. [JA I got a tick on my leg I think in Mkuzi in the grass that caused a problem & I had to go to a doctor a week later ] Love from Grandpa

Hi Randi & Quinn. Do not sit too far back on the ostrich or you will fall off like I did. It has a neck that is very interesting to hang on to. Go the whole distance on the cave tour, the chimney is sort of tight but they know if you are too fat and wont let those people go . you dont have any worries. Have lots of fun & meet lots of friends in the camp grounds . Thanks for your updates. Feb. 19 late at nite after symphony. Love to you both from grandpa & grandma.

What fun!
As I was going through the pictures, I imagined you and Quinn sitting at my kitchen island going through all of them with me and expounding on more of the stories. It will happen, someday. I'm hoping each picture will jog another memory a couple of years from now! Your pictures are fantastic. Machu Picchu, salt flats, falls, beaches . . . you really could be travel writers! Now, the excitement in my life is that we have launched new hydrating and oil absorbing foundations . . . Wow! Just doesn't compare with walking on the beach, drinking fresh coconut water in 30 degree weather. But I'm there with you in my imagination! Love to you both!
