Hey Everyone, I am terrible at keeping up with this travel blog thing. I guess I will start with an update of what I am doing now. I got a job teaching English at a school called Santa Margarita. I am teaching English to first grade and a couple classes to kinder and prekinder. I really like my job. The kids are great. It is kinda hard sometimes though because there are 33 kids in each class and they don't speak much English. I have been teaching at this school since February and my contract goes until December. I have not decided yet if I want to stay another year, come home, or go somewhere else. I go back and forth a lot. After a lot of time and money I finally got my work visa ... read more

Hey Everyone, I am back in Lima after my month stay in Huancavelica. I will tell you about the bus ride back first because it was pretty interesting. I got on the bus in Huancavelica at 8pm Sunday night. It has been raining a lot up there so there are a lot of rock slides. The bus was pretty nice with reclining seats and a bathroom. We were on the road for about 2 hours when I woke up and we were stopped at a rock slide. We had been stopped for about a half hour and got going again after about another half hour, then a little later at about 1130 I woke up again and we were stopped again. This time everything was quiet, the bus was off, and everyone was sleeping. I guess ... read more

It is pretty rainy today so I have some more time to try to put up pictures. It is Three Kings day or something though so I went and saw a little play in the Plaza de Armas. Also people are lighting off more fireworks. I guess there are a lot of holidays here in January. Well hopefully here are a bunch of pictures from my last week here.... read more

Hey Everybody, I finally got my pictures uploaded from my camera, so I am going to post a bunch on here. For New Years here I had a huge Thanksgiving like dinner here on New Years Eve with turkey and Paneton and a little wine and hot chocolate. I guess it was a typical thing. Then we hung out and the priests sang some songs in Spanish that I didn't know. I shattered my record of eating dinner with 7 priests. This time there were 16. At nine they all went to bed or to do whatever priests do, so I decided I had to stay up until 12, so I watched a movie and the horrible CNN coverage until 12. At 12 I went outside and people were lighting off fireworks and burning things all ... read more

For those of you that don't know, I decided to come live in the mountains of Peru at a place called Huancavelica for a month during my summer vacation. I wanted to get out of Lima for a little since I am going to be there another year and I don't have enough money to just travel, so I looked for volunteer opportunities where I could basically live for free. It turns out the school I was teaching at helps out this town of Huancavelica through it's priests, so I had the opportunity to come up and live in the seminary and teach some English. Huancavelica is a small city of about 40,000 people in what is called the sierra or mountain region of Peru. It is at about 12,000 feet and is surrounded by mountains. ... read more

Ok, So I said I would do better to update my travel blog, but I guess I haven't. Since my last entry I ended up getting a job at that school. I have been teaching 2nd grade for the last couple months. I like it a lot, but it is difficult because they don't understand much English. It is getting very tough now because there are only 2 weeks left of school. The school is really nice and I would work there again next year if they had a good position for me. The weather here is getting better. We have had some nice sunny days. It is really weird to say that summer is coming in December. I have not really been to the beach much. By the time I get home from school it ... read more

So I moved into my own house. I couldn't take living out of a suit case anymore. I found a really good deal on a place. It is a house that a guy just rents out rooms to foreigners that are working or studying or whatever. The place is only $200 dollars a month and it includes all utilities, which is really good for the area I am in. I live with a French couple and two French girls who are studying, an American guy who is doing about the same that I am doing, and a woman from Wales who is studying Spanish. Everyone is pretty cool, but I haven't hung out with them much yet. We are all going to Ica this weekend together though. I am posting some pictures of the house. I ... read more

Hey Everyone, I am going to start this travel blog up again and this time I promise that I will update it more often. For those of you that dont know I moved to Lima, Peru to find a job. I don't have a job yet, but I have a friend that is living here and I have a place to stay for a little while. As my friend Todd said, I pretty much illegally immigrated to Peru. I had an interview with a school today and it went well. They told me that they would like to hire me, but it is the middle of the school year right now and they don't have any openings. The lady told me that I can definitely work there starting the next school year in March, but they ... read more

Hey Everyone, So I have been really lazy with this travel blog. I just do not like writing very much. I would rather go to the beach. From now on I am going to try to do more short entries with pictures, because that is what you want to see. I know i said i would tell you about the rest of my trip over Christmas, but I will do that later. Since then, things have been going well. My mom and Uncle Kurt came down for a week and we had a lot of fun. I will put up some pictures of that on this entry or the next one. Also, my friends came down for Semana Santa which was a great time. It was really great to see people i know. I cant wait ... read more
