And as I part on my trip to Australia in 2 weeks, it is time to dedicate this blog. I will dedicate this blog to a very special person who hasn't been dealt the best of hands, but has always managed to keep her quirky sense of humor and to see the brighter side of things. I hope that you are doing well and making the best of your situation, and I miss your random little quotes and jokes. Here's to the ducks. I will be traveling with two little duckies that were given to me by one of my best friends. A yellow one and a purple one. And they glow in the dark! I am asking the very special person to name the ducks. These little duckies will be a source of fun stories. ... read more

Ah, yes, I had to use the Mobile song title, didn't I? Well, yes, Montreal was calling me. I had to return. And besides, it seems fitting to borrow the title from a band that was founded there, eh? Although I grew up in Goshen, NY, it is the glorious city of Montréal that I feel I can call home. Nevermind I'm not there at the moment. When I'm homesick, I am actually missing Montreal. And hence those of you from Goshen have a hint as to why my spelling looks so funny and why I say "eh?". So last weekend I went up to Montreal on a last minute trip. And it was a blast! And I will return in November, once more before I head down under. I have an ode to all my ... read more

Since the fall colours are nearing their peak, it has inspired the photographer in me. And so I'd like to share some of the beautiful colours with you. People from NYC may venture up to the Hudson Valley for the foliage, just as people from Montreal venture into the Laurentians. And as I've said in the past, sometimes it takes a trip away from home to realize the beauty of home. I realized that with Montreal, after my first mini-Eurotrip in 2002. I realized it with Goshen when trying to figure out how to play tourguide, first to a Swiss friend, then to an Aussie friend. And the O.C. is certainly beautiful in autumn. I realize that now. ... read more

So since I'm not setting off on my trip to the land down under for another couple of months, I figure I will tell you about the lovely Orange County, NY. Yes, the O.C. The original O.C. since it existed long before the one in California. Although I wasn't born here, I did grow up in Goshen, NY. It's a small town. I like to joke that we don't even have a grocery store. We don't actually have one, but it's not actually that small of a town. I believe the village population is approaching 6,000; the town and village combined is probably around 12,000. Of course if you're from a big city, you consider Goshen tiny...but I'm sure residents of smaller towns further upstate would think Goshen is large. Or even the next town over...Florida, ... read more

Hello world. First entry. Great...where do I begin? I had a previous blog for my Eurotrip06 and the New Brunswick fossil dig, but rather than rewrite the stories, I will simply link the old blog. And in exploring this site, I have to say I quite like of some of the features. Mainly the Visited Countries Map. So here's my map of visited countries. In smalltown Goshen, NY, I am always told: wow you travel a lot. Very true, but this map doesn't seem to show that! It's funny how a map can put things in perspective . But I must say, I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to traveling...I have a hard time convincing myself to visit places in which I don't speak the language. Perhaps that will change when I go ... read more
