Europe August 19th 2015

I see that Basse - Navarre region of France is unknown to this blog site. But let us continue with our update for 18 to 19 August. Bon Jour--yes, we are now in France AND we think our bags are also in France--in Toulouse, 3 hours away from St. Jean. From Stansted Airport, we flew along the French coast most of the way. Our bags had not yet arrived. With water on our right, we enjoyed good views of the rural French countryside on the left of the plane. As we approached the Pyrenees the land became less rolling and more hilly. It was a patchwork of pasture, small cultivated plots and copses of trees. In Biarritz, we were picked up by James, the owner of a small transport company with business primarily between the seaside ... read more

At last the day of departure has arrived and on this Monday, 17 August 2015, we took leave of our darling grand daughters and headed for the Raleigh Durham Airport (RDU). To make this get away we first had to load the bags and backpacks in the Veracruz along with Emily and drive to the Triangle Montessori School to pick up Madeline. Her daddy had packed a lunch and the girls would have lunch at the airport while watching the planes come and go. As a birthday/departure gift, son James, made a lovely wrist band with black and white photos of both girls that I now wear and can see as I move my arms with the poles while walking. What a great send off! Our flight from RDU departs at 1540 but since we could ... read more

This is a trial entry to re-learn how this works again. Then I will add the details of weeks of planning for a trip first thought of over 30 years ago. 28 May 2015 continued entry. So we have been trying to reduce our lifetime accumulation of paper and stuff. One item was a NYTimes travel article from 1987 on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. So we have had this on our list for about 30 years. As a prelude we have walked the Milford Track in New Zealand; the Great Ocean Walk in Australia; The Coast to Coast (Wainwright Trail)(C2C) in England; The Lycian Way in Turkey; and I have also walked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu as well as hiking with our Sun City Anthem Nevada (SCA) hiking club. After the Coast ... read more

Just got back into this after almost a year. Now that I read what I wrote in August of 2008, I find that is is valuable as a reference to activities and events. Now as we prepare to collect our paperwork on THE VIEW - 31B and hope to find out more about its construction status. Original delivery was April 2008. Now, maybe December 2009 but we shall see. Also, am having lots of problems with HSBC panama. First they changed all the web access and account numbers without telling me. Then since I could not access my account they made it inactive and charged me $15 each month from October 2008 until March of 2009. During this time, I called, emailed and contacted several times HSBC panama representatives who would not return calls nor fix ... read more

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 We had breakfast and then got paperwork together to walk to Balboa and Calle Uruguay to meet with Panama Casa property management company. It poured on us so had to walk thru mud near the construction sites. There are many projects proposed or going up on Balboa. The office of Panama Casa is in the La Gaviota building. Security person in next building knew this and helped us. Once in the building we learned that Betsy was still with another client and spent a very productive 20 minutes with Suzett who provided us with a typical rental proforma spread sheet. We spent about three hours with Betsy asking and getting answers to questions. Towards the end we met Jeff Duda the owner and spent time talking about his various interests and projects ... read more

On Saturday, 17 August, we got up early and started our drive to El Valle del Anto for the early market. We found a French bakery on Via Argentina and stopped for coffee and pastries to go. We arrived in El Valle about 9:40 as the market was going but not crowded. Saw very nice crafts and produce and beautiful orchids. After more than an hour we walked to the shops at Hotel Don Jose and looked at CocoBolo hand crafted wood articles. We had juice driinks at the mercado then drove out to see Los Capitanes and walk around the grounds. There were two birds and three large iguanas in very large cages. Said Hello to the Capitan and got back to the car before the deluge set in. We then drove to find Hotel ... read more

A bit of catch up to do on activities since the 12th. On Wednesday August 13th, we meet Jackeline and traveled to a warehouse for the appliance line called Linea Blanco. There we say various options and the Frigidaire appliances. After looking at various options for a "set-in" cook top (Estufo) we decided against this. But we did decide on a dishwasher and selected the Microwave Oven that includes a ducted vent and light for above the stove cook top. Here we met with Danitza who informed us that we would need a quotation from Lisbeth. Sol sent me her email. We also want the side-by-side freezer and refrigerator. The taxi then took us to La Garantia to look at the closet style. Here we also saw some options for a pantry which we can add ... read more

Sunday, August 10, 2008 We awake and Harlan sees the only sun for the entire day! By the time we are ready to eat it is pouring outside and we decide to head out toward the Pacific beaches. We find our way across the Bridge of the Americas and proceed onto the Pan American Highway toward David. We are beginning to get hungry but stop at Capira at the junk shop. Sara thinks thinks this is a treasure house. She especially likes a figure of a monkey made from cocobola wood. On down the street a short distance to our favorite spot for empanadas where we order several chicken empanadas, also cheese empanadas and a sweet pastry. We turn in at Coronado but are turned away from the entrance gate. On down the road where we ... read more

Trying to learn how to use this. Seems one must save and not publish to get back to a specific title and add more days. We shall see. {later edit - listing the entries then clicking on the text allows one to edit what has been saved or published.} About 9:45 PM on Thursday, 7 August Lauren Thomas picked us up at home and took us to the airport. Checked our bags and waited for our plane which left at 12:50 AM for Atlanta. Just before boarding we enjoyed a TCBY frozen dish. We arrived at Atlanta early but were in same terminal as our departing flight to Panama City, Panama. We found a bench seat with no arms so Karen could stretch out. After a breakfast sandwich we boarded but bags on plane did not ... read more
