Starlings on the move Quote from mom(years ago): 'You know, 'so and so' told me that they saw you and said 'I just didn't think Olivia would grow up to be such a beautiful young lady.'' Another gem, from years ago, 'Olivia when you were in middle school 'they' told me you wouldn't ever amount to anything in high school because you talk too much.' Well, here's to 40 years of knocking down the critics that have been so mouthy to my momma! I'm doing allllright!! ----- It's been an interesting month. We saw a dear friend get married, helped a friend recover at our house from hip surgery, my parents dog passed away, our dog has no blood but somehow continues to survive, my mother had a stroke and our oldest had dental issues with ... read more

Cruise Day 1 I think Day 1 is the hardest day. The checking process can be exhausting and the magnitude of the boat and people can be overwhelming. This cruise we have three families. The Starlings, The Gonatos (my sister) and The Blumes (high school friend). There is a total of 10 of us. Four adults and six kids. Parking Let the tipping begin... This time we chose to use the Port of Canaveral parking that is associated with the Raddison hotel. Parking costs us just under $36 which is half the price of the parking garage at the port. The instructions that the company provides are very clear and the staff is more than accommodating. We were parked were shuttled to the port in a matter of 15 minutes. So we tipped the Irish driver ... read more

For the second Spring Break in a row we have decided to take the kids on a cruise. Since we live in Florida it is only a four hour drive to the Port Canaveral and these days it seems cheaper than a hotel at Panama City Beach, FL or Destin, FL. Jeff and I went on our first cruise for our Honeymoon in 2001. We didn't have a clue about anything! I had never stepped foot on a cruise ship and truth be known I do not think at the time I knew anyone that had been on a cruise. Well, when 'ol Jeff booked the cruise the travel agent was so nice. She was able to give him an upgrade. How exciting! First cruise and upgraded. This is going to be the best trip ever! ... read more

As in the last blog, I a not a historian so if I misstated anything just let me live in the ignorant bliss...here goes When you go away from the kids for the weekend you have these ideas that you will sleep in and get tons of rest. WRONG! We got things to do and places to go. FYI - It was sooo cold this morning! The first order of business was looking for coffee. Since we woke up around 7 am it was kind of hard to find a place that was open. I think Heather and Laura finally found a coffee shop around 9 am. We ate a little breakfast and headed out the door. Funny story, Kirby and I were on FSU's campus about two weeks ago watching his double bass instructor perform at his senior concert. We parked were we normally park in front of the sorority houses. The concert was an hour and then we walked back to the car. Well, Mr. Kirby had forgotten to roll up his window so apparently someone walking by decided to stick their head in the window and rummage through our glove box and throw stuff around. The weird thing was my debit card was sitting on the middle console and they didn't take the checkbook from the glove box. I don't know what they were looking for. Anyway, Kirby and I went about the night and I promise the poor boy learned his lesson. He is a pro at self punishment ... read more

This weekend I will be traveling to Savannah, Georgia with my twin sister and some pretty fun lifelong friends. Let's meet them.... Cheryl Well, for those that do not know Cheryl, she's my twin sister. Even though she is 7 minutes younger than me she is the baby of the family. When we were growing up we would always eat dinner at the table every night. We would all tell stories at the table, watch the news and sometimes we were still at the table when Wheel of Fortune came on. My family is funny! We would laugh and laugh every night at the dinner table. It was never a dull night at the dinner table. So, truth be known, our parents instilled having fun into our DNA. Cheryl and I have been on countless family ... read more
