Starlings on the move
Quote from mom(years ago): 'You know, 'so and so' told me that they saw you and said 'I just didn't think Olivia would grow up to be such a beautiful young lady.''
Another gem, from years ago, 'Olivia when you were in middle school 'they' told me you wouldn't ever amount to anything in high school because you talk too much.'
Well, here's to 40 years of knocking down the critics that have been so mouthy to my momma!
I'm doing allllright!!
-----
It's been an interesting month. We saw a dear friend get married, helped a friend recover at our house from hip surgery, my parents dog passed away, our dog has no blood but somehow continues to survive, my mother had a stroke and our oldest had dental issues with an adult tooth.
So what's next??? Vacation baby!!
We are putting our 'Out of Office' messages on and headed to Club Med in Port St. Lucie.
Reviews are funny. I hardly ever write a review unless it's on Etsy, Amazon or EBay and typically they read 'Thanks, will order again.' Funny thing is that I hardly ever
reorder anything because typically it is a one time purchase. I did my part and submitted my review so props to me.
The reviews for Club Med are mixed so I'm not really sure what to expect. All I know is that I can throw my kids into a camp and alcohol is included so I'm already impressed!
Listen, I'm not fancy. I've stayed at the Candle Light motel in AL (trust me, they don't have a website), the Bugetel Inn in Fort Lauderdale where Jeff and I shared a towel and a Ramada Inn in Orlando where the shower didn't work. So, when I recap our stay at Club Med consider the source. He, he.
Our parents wanted to come down and celebrate with us but due to my moms recent stoke they will not be able to join us. I think the moment we blow out the candles without them will be a little bitter sweet. We have very rarely celebrated a birthday without them.
I think celebrating your 40th birthday is a point of celebration. What you want to celebrate is up to you. At this point I would like to celebrate the wonderful
life my parents, friends and family have provided for me. I am truly a blessed.
No, life leading up to 40 wasn't a fairy tale. There were ups and downs and I think that is true with everyone. Sometimes you were riding high and other times you were at your lowest on your knees praying to God and wondering why such things would happen.
Then there was the middle. Now, that's when the cool fun stuff happened.
Through the highs, lows and all in between there was family and an army of friends.
Oh boy, we have had some laughter, tears and cheers.
The fondest memories I have with my mom, dad, brother a my sister have happened around the dinner table. Every night mom would make dinner and we would tell stories and laugh until almost tears. That dinner table also worked as a surface for poster projects that would last until after midnight, Girl Scout projects, craft projects, lessons in making family favorites like Sausage Balls or watching mom make her mothers dressing. That dinner table shaped how we celebrate our own families Easter, Christmas, Birthdays. Mothers Day, Fathers Day or any holiday. The
18 years we had at the table defined us.
On the way to 40 there was elementary school, middle school, high school, college, marriage and children. I could go into a diatribe about each event.
On the way to 40 there have been loved ones lost, tragic experiences and triumphs.
On the way to 40 I've learned, grown as a person and grown up (kind of).
On the way to 40 I've made life long friends. I love my friends and think of them as family.
So, this weekend I celebrate my family and my friends that have put up with me along the way.
I really don't care what Club Med's reviews say. I'm going to celebrate turning 40, reminiscing with my brother and twin sister about the journey here and tell stories about the friends we have shared along the way.
Hope y'all enjoy the review in the next couple of days.
