Brad and Shanie - Super Traveling Blog

We are a newly married couple into video games and road trips. We have been on two vacations together in the past - one to the Grand Canyon, AZ, and to Las Vegas, NV. Shane has been to England three times and Brad has visited several US states including: Colorado, North Carolina, and Washington state. Brad is 30 years old and has never flown - we are working on that 😊

Ok, soooo this has been a challenging trip :P First off, we were pulled over while we were driving through Rhome ... because our headlight had gone out! But thankfully, we only got a warning and we went to the walmart in Decatur and got a new one and changed it out in the parking lot. But, sadly, that was an omen for our trip to not go so well... When we got to Cadillac Ranch the wind was blowing sooo hard that the spray paint would not cooperate! Plus it was SUPER muddy around all of the cars so no matter where I stepped I sank about 2 inches into the mud. I gotta remember to wash my tennis shoes when I get home! img=http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp141/orangebuttonsphotography/Honeymooniversary/CadillacRanchTag.jpg img=http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp141/orangebuttonsphotography/Honeymooniversary/SpotDogatCadillacRanch.jpg img=http://i406.photobucket.com/albums... read more

Day one ... sort of Ok, so I know we haven't left yet, but right now I'm packing up all our stuff that hasn't already been sitting in a huge pile in the living room for the last two weeks ... ask my mom ... I get ready for vacations like MONTHS in advance :P img=http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp141/orangebuttonsphotography/Honeymooniversary/OurGearandstuff.jpg So I put up the tent in our apartment :P Uncle Clint gave me a tutorial in tent raising a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted one more practice run before we got out there. It BARELY fits in our living room :P And no, I didn't camp out in the living room - I took it down right after I put it up! img=http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp141/orangebuttonsphotography/Honeymooniversary/TheTentpracticerun.jpg So, I have to go to work tonight, but as soon as I get ... read more

Today we went to the Cave of the Winds and the Celestial Seasonings Plant. The Cave of the Winds was very interesting and informative. When we first arrived, we thought we were going to have to put up with a giant group of kids during our tour. Thankfully, the school kids went on their own tour and we went on a tour afterwards. The tour of the cave was really awesome - seeing all the formations was so amazing, and seeing how people originally entered the cave was a little scary - I'm glad its all paved and staired now :P One of the most interesting parts of the tour is hearing about the lore and legends of the cave. One story in particular stood out: There is a section close to the end of the ... read more

We woke up early today to go experience the Pike's Peak Cog Railway. When we got there the ticket lady told us that they were discounting the tickets because it would not be possible to go all the way to the summit today. In fact, the tour guide on the train said that they had not been able to summit for three weeks now. Snow drifts from higher up the mountain were breaking and falling onto the tracks, so we only went up to 12,129 feet elevation - to Windy Point section house. As we got closer to our stopping point, the snow got so deep! One of the photos shows it all the way up to the top of the windows on the train car - the guide said that was 10 feet deep! We ... read more

Ok, back for more, huh?? Ok, we left Durango today around 11 and drove towards Montrose - stopping at Silverton and passing through the "quaint" town of Ouray and drove on two mountain passes: Molas Pass, and Coal Bank Pass. We had our first near "run over" of a mountain ram - that jumped from a small cliff onto the road in front of us! Thank goodness the brakes are good on our rental!! There were also HUGE chunks of ice/snow that had fallen on the road from higher up - these chunks were at least 2 ft wide. Once we got to Montrose, we grabbed lunch and headed east and headed towards insanity. Car fever. There were few cities to stop at on this 200+ mile drive from Montrose to Colorado Springs. So we were ... read more

We started out day three of our honeymoon by missing a turn in town and going the wrong way for about 10 miles before I could turn around :P oh well! Once we got back on track, we stopped at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It took us a while to get there because we were forced to follow this Ford Festiva that was going at least 10 miles under the speed limit the whole way there! When we finally got there it was really cool! Its just this HUGE area of sand that is piled into mountains - and its all really fine sand too, very hard to walk on. And another thing that caught us off guard was the two busses of Mennonites that were also visiting the Dunes. I guess they were ... read more

Ok, sorry for not posting yesterday - we encountered a minor problem . . . somebody attacked my laptop with a virus either when we were in Amarillo or when we stayed in Walsenburg, CO last night. It was acting as a virus scanner that had detected a threat, but the person who put it together didn't have spell check because the error message was poorly typed. So - virus killed - we are now back on track! We started yesterday off by going to Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX to spray paint the cars. While we were working on our masterpiece, a couple walked up to see what we were doing and they congratulated us for getting married and talked with us for a while about a place in Florida that is very similar to ... read more

Welcome to our blog! Well, the wedding went off with several hitches, but we still thought it was a wonderful wedding and we will allow you to call us Mr. and Mrs. Green :P John was so embarrassed about that but we thought it was hilarious! Every trip that we have ever taken has been filled with numerous inside jokes - "BEH" on the back of a tanker 18 wheeler was pretty funny - ya know you say "Meh" when you really dont care? Well we went the whole trip saying "Beh, I dont care" . . . stupid, I know :P Well, right off the bat we see the icon of our inside jokes . . . . Leaving our apartment in Midlothian and getting on to 287, we see this hand-written sign next to ... read more
