For my first weekend in Denmark, I decided to take a look around Copenhagen. It was a good day for a walk in the city, and one of my housemates came along too. Our house isn't quite in Copenhagen, so we took the train and metro to get there. We already knew where we wanted to go, but since neither of us had mobile data, we went to the nearest information centre to get a map. Walking through the streets and alleys, it was interesting to see the mix of old buildings with some newer ones. There are old churches, palaces, castles, fortresses, theatres, libraries, etc. scattered around the city. I mean, really old. Hundreds of years old. You don't see that in NZ. Of course, there are plenty of statues too. After seeing a canal, ... read more

A few of my housemates and I had planned earlier in the week to go the last night of a film festival in Copenhagen. Being the last film, the title was kept a secret, so we didn't know what to expect but we hoped for the best. Friday night finally came and we headed off, after eating our individual dinners, to the city. Just a bit more than a hop, skip, and a jump away. At least, that's how it would have been if we had gone the right way. We ended up quite far away from the park and had to walk there with google giving us directions. By the time we reached the park, we were half an hour late to the film. There was a large open area surrounded by trees, and thousands ... read more

There is a park just a kilometre away from my house that I decided to walk around a couple of days after arriving. It is mostly covered with trees, and has some walkways and open grass areas. Along the walk, I noticed a small wall made of stones (see photo, or google maps - this may not work on a mobile). I also saw some frogs, which was cool. There aren't many frogs in NZ so before now I had only seen them in a zoo. Of course there is a palace there too, it is called Sorgenfri Slot (Slot means Palace). Not much of an adventure, but I just wanted to take a quick look around in my area.... read more

Hello! I thought I would start off this blog with a post about my travel from Auckland to Copenhagen, Denmark. It started off with a short 4 hour flight to Melbourne, where I got off the plane and reboarded the same plane 2 hours later. Then to Dubai, which took 14 hours. Got about 3 hours of sleep, which wasn't great considering that I had just 5 hours the night before. During my 3 hour stop in Dubai airport, I hung out with a guy who was waiting for the same flight, who I will call Mr T. Mr T and his family were returning home to Sweden after a short holiday in Saudi Arabia. Me and Mr T did some walking and talking; he was super friendly and it was great to have someone to ... read more
