Another early start today up at 5.30am for breakfast before taking the Tuk Tuk to the bus, first time he took us to the wrong place! But we got there in the end, we had chosen to take the Makong Express and I have to say the service was excellent. We got there a little early checked our backs in and then they checked our passports before getting on the bus were we were given a small breakfast, a cold towel and some water. The river crossing was a little unpleasant due to the small children knocking on the windows asking for food, when we were driving off I saw the same kid with a load of eggs he was selling so did not feel as bad but still horrible to see the poverty that exists ... read more

A nice sleep in today which makes a change then up for breakfast at 9.30, I was disappointed that there was not much left when we got there but there was nice coffee and eggs which we made do with. We then organised a tuk tuk for the morning for $10 to take us around a few places we wanted to go. We started at the killing fields one of the 300 they have found and were the main memorial is. It's difficult to but in words about this place, no one speaks whilst there as a mark of respect and you can still see bit of bone and teeth coming from the ground. They said that thousands were killed there by Pol Pots armies, bullets were to expensive so they used axes and even bamboo. ... read more

Well after a heavy night it was a well deserved sleep in, so much so that we missed breakfast! But the great thing about the Tanei guesthouse is they will cook you anything you want, anytime you want so we had some nice fluffy omletes for breakfast before heading to the pool for a chill out in the sun and the heat. We booked to go and watch some authentic Cambodian Dancing in the evening at 6.30 so after our hour or so in the sun (or in the shade for me!) we headed off for a walk around the markets to work out what we wanted to buy later in the evening! A quick shower and change and it was off to the dancing at the Koulan Resturant. It was huge and for $12 each ... read more

It was a very early start for us again to make sure we could get to Angkor before the tour groups so up at 6am for breakfast and then out with Rener for a whole day around the amazing sights of Angkor. Nothing can prepare you for the vastness of the temples especially Angkor itself. With its huge moat around the edge and its three storey temple I wondered how it could possibly be built so long ago. Walking along the paths through to the main temple of Angkor you feel at peace, it's very hard to describe but it just feels right. Small temples sit either side and you start to imagine what life must have been like living in such a place. When we got to the main temple we were amazed by the ... read more

So we could not stay in Bangkok because of the floods and I was a little disappointed by this as was really looking forward to seeing this great city, anyway it was a very short and excellent flight although very expensive with Bangkok Air to Siem Reap and to what has to be one of the smallest airports I have ever seen! Made Blackpool look big! We already had our Visa's (well worth getting in advance in my book) so it was straight though the not very happy security guards who take your picture and then your finger printers on a fancy machine! Then we changed a little money, on reflection you could probably get away with having none as dollars are accepted everywhere but you will often get change in a mixture of the currencies ... read more

Middle East » United Arab Emirates » Dubai November 6th 2011

Top Tips: • Get the metro were possible its less than £1 a trip and is easy to use and get around. If the place you are going to is not to close to the station there are always taxis outside the stations to take the final part of the journey! • If you going to the water parks take food, a towel and few valuables. The food is so expensive, nearly £12 for a small meal, towels are £6 to hire and so are the lockers so save some money and take your own! • If your flying with emirates book to Dubai, the coaches are excellent and you can drop of your bags at Chelsea Towers or the Marina and the next time you see them is in your destination!! • Mall of Emirates ... read more

So its the second day of our trip and I am awoken by the alarm clock and for some reason I think I have to go to work!! I asked Johanna what do we have to get up as I was all disoriented and thought it was still the middle of the night which back in the UK it was!! Today is the day that I had planned for, I actually did this exactly the same one year ago on my way back from China but its not the same when your doing it on your your own!! We started with a nice breakfast and then it was off to Aquaventure in Atlantis the Palm, not exactly the cheapest water park in the world as but the time you get your towel and lockers you talking ... read more

Got on the lovely coach from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and before you knew it we were there. An amazing city with the worlds tallest this and the worlds biggest that just shows what happens when you think big! We got here at 10am so far to early to check in so went to the Mall of Emirates for breakfast and a walk around the vast shopping malls. If I am 100% honest the biggest problem with globalisation is that all these shopping malls look the same! M and S, Debinhams, next etc we could have been in Liverpool one or the new Westfield well apart from it being 33oC!! We went for a coffee in the Armani coffee place, johanna wanted some cake as well but at £7 a slice we gave it a miss!! ... read more

So the Etihad flight was pretty good actually, overnight from London. There was the usual o no when you realise your sat behind two kids! Surely the airlines should have a seperate area for family which gives them more space and it sound proofed!! When we landed at 7am it was 22oC! So onto the nice free Etihad coach to Dubai now!... read more
