I was planning for an afternoon update for yesterday, but I got behind and had a nice 3-hour work telecon I had to attend right after dinner. Technology is pretty amazing when it works. Don’t really like telecoms because people End up talking over one another, and you lose a lot of information form seeing peoples faces. The quick summary from yesterday afternoon was the workout was very similar to the day before. Every day can’t be great, and yesterday was one of those days. My energy in the afternoon was low. At the end of round 4, I couldn’t even finish the machine gun punches, there was just nothing there. Pretty disappointed that I couldn’t finish that last little bit. This morning felt a little better, and again after rain all night, the weather was ... read more

Last night it rained a ton. When I woke up to the alarm, which I was glad I remembered to set, it was still a bit drizzly. Went for a quick breakfast, but the cappuccino machine wasn’t working, so it was a disappointing start of the day. I did need to spend a little more time stretching this morning. I was a little surprised at how sore I was. As I was walking to the station, the rain stopped, meaning running was on when I get to the gym. Oh lucky me. Today I went for 9 laps. My goal is to be doing 10 laps by Friday. It was a bit tough trying to dodge the puddles, cars, bikes, and people today. Two of the other four guys from last night showed up and were ... read more

Oh, there will be bruises after today….. The march to the gym was uneventful. But as I approached the hidden sign, I saw someone jogging up ahead. When I got to the gym, there was one other person there, and one arriving just in front of me. A total of 4 foreigners plus me were there for the afternoon session. We were all lined up for Fahlaep. He had one busy day today. I have to say today was probably the most fun training session I've had here, but there are going to be some bruises tomorrow! But first for the boring parts. It was much more humid this afternoon. I was sweating by the time I walked into the gym. The routine began with 6 more laps. Just as a note, today has finished with ... read more

Welcome to Day 5 already. Woke up a little early today and decided it would be a good idea to do some stretching. Fahlaep likes to have me kick high, and things are a bit tight and sore this morning. Another wonderful morning today and I managed to get to the gym at about 7:20, even though I left later. Because it was so nice, I took some pictures on the way to the gym. Some may recognize from walking those paths more than once. I was surprised to see Fahlaep already in the ring starting to work with the only other person I’ve seen here every day. He must have limited time because he is here early, and only does 3 or 4 rounds of pad work and then leaves. it’s certainly better than nothing. ... read more

That felt like a lot of writing for Sunday. I did want to add one thing the guide mentioned. We were in some of the poorer residence areas and he was explaining the living conditions. The rooms they rent are merely a box, sometimes no window, definitely no A/C, and community bath facilities. The reason people rent there is because it’s all they can afford as the minimum wage is $11. Uhh, that’s $11 per day, not an hour, and sometimes they don’t get paid that. There’s more details from the ride to add as I think about it, and a few more pictures also, but that’s for another time. So after the football draft ended at about 2:00am here, I immediately fell back to sleep until the 5:45 alarm. That means lack of sleep can’t ... read more

Hard to believe that I was looking forward to a rest day so early in the trip, but even one day of training here and I was pretty sore in my shoulders and calfs. Very heavy rainstorm last last night. The rain was beating on the window and woke me up. It did stop about sunrise and made for a very nice cool morning, if you can believe that. After breakfast. I did a little walking around some of the side streets where I hadn’t been before. Nothing exciting, just more shops and people setting up for selling for the day. My Chinatown bike tour started at 1:30 and still had some time to kill. Decided to go to the gym and see if that had changed also. Once again, the weights and rooms there were ... read more

Not much exciting from this afternoon. Skipped the nap so room service could come in. Walked around looking for best exchange rate and where to eat. The couple of places just outside the hotel have closed. Not surprised, they were very empty last time I was here. a Couple favorites are gone - Firehouse and the Australian place. There are a few more burger places open, and Bully’s got a remodel also. Seems 7-11’s are everywhere now. They took over the market near the hotel. I checked out a couple other markets, and for what I might want, 7-11 is the same or cheaper. The fir it is showing 29887 steps and 3557 calories so far today. I’m not going any where far the rest of the day. Maybe a nice iced cappuccino from the lobby ... read more

After 30+ long hours of travel, I made it to the hotel and breakfast. Not much sleeping last night. I had to take a walk around the local area when I got in, just out of curiosity. Not surprisingly, there were lots of changes I saw at 1:00 in the morning from the last time I was here, nearly 3 years ago. I’m sure some of it is the normal in and out of businesses, and some related to Covid. Covid probably cause more than it’s share of places to close. For those of you who have been here, the Ambassador is pretty much same same. There are a couple more fish tanks coming in the doors. They did renovate the breakfast area, and it looks really nice. Tables are spread out much more (Covid) and ... read more

Another early morning. Departed Savannah for Newark at 6:00 am, meaning a 4:00 wake-up. Unfortunately it’s a 3 hour layover. But after all of the flight delays and cancellations for weather and other things, todays weather on the east coast is beautiful, and the next flight of 13 1/2 to Tokyo looks to be departing ontime. There’s another 3 hour layover in Tokyo before the last leg to Bangkok, which is still nearly a 7 hour flight. Arrival is 11:20 Friday night. After 30+ hours of travel, I figured I would need a workout so I will meet my new trainer Fahlaep, who has been at the gym forever at 7:30 for a nice, easy ”Welcome back to the Gym”. Fortunately the heat and humidity in Savannah have done a pretty good job getting me ready ... read more

This morning looks like each previous morning this trip, beautiful sunrise and already getting warm. At the very empty breakfast buffet for the last bacon and omelette breakfast for awhile. It will be back to the normal cookies in the car on the drive to work. Couldn’t online check-in for the flight, even though booked through Delta, the originating flight from here is on Korean Air. I’ll need to make sure I leave for the airport a little earlier. Kind of mixed emotions right now. I’m anxious to get to the last training and give it everything I have, but I’m also ready to get back to the US. although I’m not exactly excited about the length of the flying. I won’t be surprised if I sleep the entire 6 hour flight from here to Seoul. ... read more
