Wednesday 13.1.210 day 90 Soria - Spain We got up had bfast and headed off to Spain. Today was our last day in Portugal so our last chance to use our favourite Portages word ‘Fucker’ (Knife), being Australian we had been thinking that we would use it in the crocodile Dundee style ‘that’s not a fucker this is a fucker’ but sadly we did not even get to ask for a fucker at bfast, Oh well maybe next time we are in Portugal. We drove though Central Spain but we did not get to see a lot as there was lots of fog and rain. We drove though lots of places that had snowed and there was still snow on the road but there was lots of snow ploys and gritters out so it was not ... read more

Tuesday 12.1.2010 day 89 peso da regua We got a 10 am bfast served in our room and we slept so well it was so nice to have a full European bfast with fantastic Portuguese (very nice) Coffee. The locals told as that this is the most snow they have had in Portugal in 70 year! Lucky we got to see it! We decided to have a look at Porto the home of port. One thing my driver learnt is that our ‘sat nav’ has no idea how to find its way thru the second largest city in Portugal, which it only about 600 years old and most of the streets are cobble stones. Porta is very easy to get around and is incredible scenic. After several serious altercations between my driver and ‘sat nav’ we ... read more

Europe » Spain » Extremadura » Mérida January 11th 2010

Monday 11.1 2010 day 88 Merida We both woke up feeling very cold and sick. Although Merida (Spain) is a world heritage town with lots of roman things including a Dina temple that looks like the one we saw a few days ago in Portugal in faced the whole city look very much like Evora At one point we took a wrong turn and was on an identical turn around that we had done in Evora. There where Roman gladiator rings as well but as we were so tires and sick from the cold night in the room we decided to get out of town after a very quick look around and headed back to Portugal this time to Lisbon as we got closer the traffic was so bad and it just looked like another city ... read more

Friday 8.1.2010 Day 85 Portugal We did our washing and went for a walk to a fort along the cliffs it was a fantastic view (we forgot the camera) but we could not get to the fort by the cliffs so we went back and got the car it was not a very good fort and had been turned in hotel maybe by the government as they do that here some times. There is a bull fighting ring walking distance to our resort and on all our drives we see them in every town the size seem to be in proportion to the size of the town. None of the locals I have spoken to say they are in to it they all say they are in to football but someone must be going I am ... read more
