Wednesday 23.12.2009 Day 69 Liverpool- Beatles It snowed again last night and the place looks fantastic with all the snow around. We decided to go to Liverpool to see the Beatles. I wanted to put on Beatle songs on the way but did not have any on my Ipod so I put on Paul McCarthy and Wings songs. We drove all around but did not see any Beatles not even a Tomas the tank engine or even anything that is named in there songs. We considered going to the entomology department of the Liverpool uni as we drove past it to see if they could tell us where the beetles are. After we gave up we went McDonalds and used their free internet. ... read more

Tuesday 22.12.2009 Day 68 Hadrian’s Wall All though is snow lots again last night we decided to brave the snow again today and go to Hadrian’s Wall. Hadrian ’s Wall was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in 122AD, it Stretches for 80 Miles from Newcastle to Bowness- on-Solway near Carlisle, and was the northern frontier of the empire for almost 300 years. It was superseded in Norman times by dozens of castles and fortified houses some of which remain largely intact. We went to see one of the forts that where still very intact it was closed due to winter but still worth the drive in the snow. The roads around the wall where covered in snow and we skidded along the road almost into another as we came to one intersection but we took ... read more

Monday 21.12.2009 Day 68 William Wordsworth It snow lots last night and the snow was very think but we decided to try and go for a drive today this time the road from the resort to the motorway was ploughed so we could get out. We went to Dove Cottage where William and his sister Dorothy Wordsworth lived and where he wrote most of his work. We got a book on their life at the cottage which was very interesting. They lived together all of their life and they seem to have a much stronger bond then William did with his wife. Dorothy never married they also had lots of visitors to the house and the visitors even moved house with them when they moved. Dorothy kept detailed dairies of their life. When William became the ... read more

Friday 18.12.2009 Day 65 Otters and dear We woke up and it was snowing again we feed our Robin and then drove to the Galloway forest again this time we found a Otter it had a viewing platform so that we could see the Otters we walked out to it but is was a long way from the water and the otters we thought we saw some over in the distance but is was not very exciting as they were so far away. What is the point of building a platform to see otters when they are so far away you do not know if you saw them or not and it would be more exciting to look at them in a photo them from there. We decided we wanted to get closer so we got ... read more

Wednesday 16.12.2009 Day 63 Brunston castle We woke up to more snow again today and fed our Robin again then we decided to go for a walk around where we are staying. We tried to go for a walk to Brunstane Brunston Castle which is now very dilapidated. It was built on a courtyard plan in the 16th century. It comprises an oblong enclosure, with a dwelling-house on the SE side and a projecting square tower at the N angle. Both were originally of two storeys and a garret. The date 1568 is cut above the lintel over the entrance to the house. The castle was still surrounded by a deep ditch at the beginning of the 19th century. The castle was burnt to the ground by the English under Lord Grey (in 1547), and ... read more
