Had a lovely time in Vienna, stayed in our friend CM's place & met his future (Swiss) wife but then he had to go away for work so we had his apt. to ourselves -it was good but it geared towards older people and the bloody shops close really early on a Saturday or only open the 1st Saturday of the month or something so that needs to be taken into acocunt when you planning any itinerary there. Coffee house culture is good there, the trams are ace & no. 1 & 2 get all the sights in, and U-bahns are easy, Habsburgs' summer residence Schönbrunn is fab (I think this is generally thought to be the better residence & it is good). And Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss are all buried ... read more

Geo: 13.0935, -59.6105Mum & I went for 2 weeks - which was one week too long as there's only so much to see on a tropical island full of honeymooners. But we had a good time considering, went all over the island, went on boat trips, went snorkelling to see some cool fishies, went to Mount Gay rum brewery, being 400m from the equator I got pretty sunburnt (where I discovered from a local aloe vera as a cure), read 'Love in a time of Cholera' (by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) whose tropical setting was appropriate, ate a lot of swordfish (as had no choice), got my hair plaited (all of it), went to catholic mass where the visitors have to stand up an idenify them selves - a bit embarrassing, went shopping in Bridgetown where I ... read more

Geo: 42.984, -70.7513I Got a Morrison Visa (US green card) which I had to validate but then never used it as C. didn't get one. So stayed with a friend (Ms. LMcG) in Needham with her family, very nice people. L's dad took me to Museum of Fine Arts at 465 Huntington Ave (Back Bay) which was good, had everything from Modern Amercian like Hopper to Impressionists like Degas & Gauguin & has some magnificent asian & ancient Egyptian stuff & when I asked him didn't he think it should be in Egypt in a museum he said he had never thought about it before but that I was probably right. Myself & L spent a good bit time driving - past Harvard/Cambridge & all over. And we also went to Salem which was very interesting ... read more

Geo: 40.093, -72.1441Took boat to Statue Liberty - climbed into crown - & stopped at Ellis Island. Took the subways & looked around Battery park and went to top of Empire State Building, great views, Shopping, Stayed in Wentworth hotel, Were offed drugs in Time Sq. of course and remember seeing a mouse in an electronics shop! And drunkenly offering leftover Margarita cocktail's (from a pitcher) in a restaurant to some poor non pissed American family! Charming.... read more

Geo: 30.0479, -90.3041Great mad place, knew no one there but just had to go. Stayed in a really American motel - we were the only whites in the local taek way though. French quarter & Jackson Sq. & markets were great. Bourbon ST was nuts - cocktails very strong. Voodoo shops kitschy. There's no streetcar named Desire though. And I remember they had a pretty good Aquarium in Garden district in Charles ST.... read more
