Geo: 52.3738, 4.89095Arrived in Amsterdam & got tram to where some accomdation in the guide book said & booked into to a 'hotel' interiorally decorated completely in beauty-board. The guy said how long do you want to stay we said 2 or 3 days maybe & he said no say the exact number now as I run my business not you! Dutch effiency ??Anyway had great old time as it's a sublimely beautiful place to wander around - from the dainty Melkmeisjesbrug around Herengracht to the imposing, cast-iron Blue Bridge is a very pleasant walk. The "Gentleman's Canal" is the loveliest in the city, lined with merchants' mansions topped by beautiful gables, and includes the classic "Golden Bend" - an arc of sheer opulence. The heart of Amsterdam is a semicircle, comprised of concentric 17th- century ... read more

Geo: 48.8567, 2.35099Thought we'd (C & I) give this inter railing lark a go, so with no particular plan got the ferry from Rosslare to Le Harve - booked seats only but when we went to try to sleep in them other people had sprawled all over them & were asleep, didn't fancy a fight so had to get a cabin that the key was lost for but only after we had to pretend we were married (why Irish Ferries cared I duuno.) Anyway got a train to Paris & thought now what? Wandered around for the day looking at monuments & drinking coffee in very parisian cafes & for some reason (maybe we couldn't get accomodation) decided to get the train to the 1st place possible & that place was Amsterdam ....... read more

Geo: 55.8599, -2.82892Trip as 21st bithday present for me with my Mum. Stayed in nice B&B with friendly ex-banker now turned b&b lady. Great city did a lot of shopping & alot of walking Edinburgh is dominated by the castle, perched on a volcanic plug at the top end of the Royal Mile. So we went along the Royal Mile at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the Queen. Had look at the the ceremonial apartments and the chambers used by , Mary, Queen of Scots. This long thoroughfare changes its name several times on its way up, from the Esplanade to Castlehill, The Lawnmarket, the High Street and Canongate. The Royal Mile ends at the dramatic Edinburgh Castle, whose royal apartments contain the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny & ... read more

Geo: 53.5757, -2.15876Went over for a friends 21st party (via ferry to Wales & then stopping in the nightmare that is Crew station)- main thing I remember is the friends 2 ex-pat uncle's discussing the merits of the West Of Ireland with the memorable line "Shligo for feedin' Mayo for the breedin'". Great shopping town I remember getting 'Red or Dead' shoes. Didn't go to the Cornation St studio, Man U grounds (naturally enough we wouldn't be interested) or The Haçienda but that'd be hard is it was defunct at that point! So what did we do... wandered around St Peters Sq, went shopping in the many many shops (which is actually the main thing to do there), mooched around Deansgate Locks etc., seemed to get mini-cabs to pubs a lot I also remember. Hooked up ... read more

Geo: 35.8179, -5.19417Crazy adventure for 3 weeks in Tangier, Asilah, Chefchouen (Rif Mtns). We really hadn't a clue what we were doing but arrived in Tangier at night with nothing booked & a guide book that suggested some where. But we met 3 more people on the flight with nothing booked either & a place picked from their guide book which turned out to have no room at the inn. So the 5 of us tried the one in our book which once upon a time had been a fab hotel. It was on the edge of kasbah over looking the port & the view was great but the hotel was all faded grandeur with basic enough rooms, it was grand we were happy, so cracked open the duty free with our new friends & let our ... read more
