clothing choices Thank you for sharing your recent Dubai trip! I also noticed the huge lack of respect with some ladies' clothing choices in Dubai! Many women were wearing yoga gear (tight see-through pants and spaghetti strap tanks) to the mall and thong swim suits on the beaches and in water parks. It was unbelievable!
Disrespectful Yes, it is really quite offensive. They don't ask much here - is it that hard to wear jeans and a t-shirt???? The drunken night at the concert is one thing, mostly just sad/funny, but on the family beach? And these girls weren't laying out - they were in full exposure playing volleyball or paddle ball. I remember seeing a woman at the grocery store too - full length white see through dress with a black thong and nothing else. Why? I seriously just don't get it. Why come here at all?
Hotels Haha! I did splurge a bit in Paris, but they were all expensive there and I was determined to be comfortable. However, I use Orbitz to book my hotels usually, and if you write a review you get 15% off. I've written lots of reviews so all of my hotels were discounted this trip, which worked out well. I'm also a firm believer in sorting through reviewers' comments and having pre-requisites (mine: free wifi and location, preferably easy access to public transport and safe area). Where I am now in Munich is actually the worst of the bunch; not bad, but in an area I don't feel safe alone at night, and a bit strange with the little things - like the "Christmas Eve Buffet" (chili con carne, salad, sliced ham, and bread)
Wonderful Markets Your recent blogs have revived fond memories of the Christmas markets when we lived in Berlin many years ago - stunning photos - enjoy your journey.......
Pretty! It's a shame there aren't Christmas Markets here like there are in Europe. Sure we get a parade every now and then, but a whole town celebrating together...sure does sound more inviting!
Christmas atmosphere Yeah, yesterday was pretty magical. The Christmas markets bring everyone together in the main centers of the cities, with music playing, food, drink and lots of chats. I just love it!
Basilique du Sacre-Coeur Ms. Spencer,
I loved your photograph of Basilique du Sacre-Coeur; the angle at which you took the photograph exhibits the looming importance of the building. Good job!
Best,
Monique
Very cool! That is so awesome you were able to go there and find your family's names! Then to turn around and be given warm French hospitality...great start to your trip!!
I was an engineer on a long term assignment, first in Dubai and then in Qatar. During this time, I took advantage of my nice paycheck and proximity to other places to start seeing the world. After three years, I decided to take a much earned break and traveled for a year. After working about two years in New York State, I am on my way back to Dubai.... full info
