Day 11 On day 11 we caught another bus to Ho Chi Minh city. This involved crossing the border from Cambodia to Vietnam mid way of the six our trip. Ho Chi Minh city is more built up then Phnom Penh and there are lots more motorbikes. Our accomodation there was very nice and we will most likely stay there again when we return to Ho Chi Minh on our way back to Melbourne. Day 12 We spent Day 12 booking and planning the next few days in Da Lat. We went to the markets during the day and at night. After dinner as a group, we split up into two groups. Half of us chose to go bowling and the others went to the night markets for more shopping. Bowling was great fun and there ... read more

We apologise for not updating you sooner but here is a summary of the past three days of our world Challenge adventure. Day 8 On sunday we made the decision as a group that we needed an extra day of resting at the same hotel in Siem Reap before our long bus trip to the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. This put us a day behind schedule according to our itinerary and therefore we cut our trek down to three days. We spent Sunday adjusting our itinerary and getting the rest we needed after five long working days in the heat at the orphanage. Day 9 Monday we were up nice and early to catch a bus to Phnom Penh. The bus trip took six hours and we arrived at our new accomodation called the Longlin ... read more

Day 6 By day 6 after all the hard work we had been doing, some people had become a little more tired than others. So they decided to stay back at the hotel and have a bit of the rest while the others went back to help out at the orphanage. Today because of the smaller group attending we couldnt really do as much as we had planned too, and although we continued to build the brick wall the heat made us have another set back! It also got to 41 degrees! Day 7 Day 7 was our last day at the orphanage, it was a sad day for all but it was a rewarding one. There were no classes and building today, just spending the day with the kids playing and helping cook our lunch. ... read more

So I would just like to start of this blog by saying that its was 40 degrees today!!!! We went back to the orphanage, and broke up into two groups. One went to the market to get food for our lunch and for the kids lunch, and one went to continue building our brick wall. It was a real experience for the people that went to the market because of the extreme smell and begging, not like our usual markets back home. For lunch the ladies plus the people who went to the market made us noddles, vegetables and rice, it was sooo good! Although everyone was pretty keen to keep going after lunch the heat stopped us from building anymore, so we just sat and talked to the kids at the orphanage which was a ... read more

Day 4 of our trip started off as a very wet one. Although it only rained in the area we were staying in and it didn't take very long for it to catch us! We divided into two groups like yesterday. One group went help out at the school, whilst the other group moved tiles. At the school we attempted to draw animals on the white board for the little kids to try and guess our pictures, but they just ended laughing at us. Either way seeing a smile on their faces was rewarding enough. Over on the side with the group helping the builders, we decided to do a production line to work efficiently. It was a fantastic idea and we got done with things really quickly. Unfortunately the rain didn't let us finish a ... read more

We really thought the temple of Angkor Wat were the most beautiful thing we'd ever see, that was until we rocked up at the orphanage and were greeted by the beautiful smiling faces of the children. Walking down the muddy path into the orphanage was an experience for everybody because it was flooded waist deep in areas. We were greeted by Sean who told us about the history of the orphanage and then what we would have to do today. Getting started we were split into two groups and sent off to work moving bricks or to teach in the school. Teaching the kids in the school was amazing and so much fun we taught the little kids the alphabet, to count to ten and how to do the hokey poky. It was a tiring day ... read more

Day 1 We arrived safely in the small Siem Reap airport with barely any sleep and had a very busy day yesterday, trying to get everything sorted. After looking for dinner out in the streets of Siem Reap we made it back to the hotel late were we began to write a blog but the computer froze and it got deleted... Day 2 Not having much sleep we woke up at 4 am to go see the sun rise over Angkor Wat temple. Running a little bit late we made in just it time to see rain and cloudy sky's. We had breakfast with Angelina Jolie at the Tiger Woods table. We then got a tour at Angkor Wat and were amazed by the detail and beauty of it. Spending a lot of time there we ... read more

A group of students and teachers from Gleneagles Secondary College will be embarking on a crazy adventure through South East Asia! We will be partaking in many cultural experiences, including visiting ancient temples, watching traditional dance performances and partaking in some culinary treats like deep fried tarantulas! After a few days of acclimatization, we will be heading out to a local orphanage for 5 days to work with the local community on a project site. Along with the manual labour, we will get to interact with the children and help them to work on their English skills. This will be a confronting and eye-opening experience for our students, but I think they will come away with a new found appreciation for our life here in Australia and their role as a global citizen. Before heading to ... read more

The day will consist of ensuring all packs are prepared so students are well equip for the adventure that lies ahead. The team will meet at the airport at 7pm where we will have dinner with families and say goodbye to Mummy and Daddy, and then Barker and Ryder get to take over (the kids have no idea what they are in for)!
