We left Singapore around 7.30 pm from Gill Divers at Hong Kong Street, Clarke Quay area. Stopped for toilet break around 10pm before reaching Mersing at 12 midnight. From mersing, we took 2 hour boat ride (which was very sickening) to Tioman. Arrived at the resort 2.30am. After room allocation and before-sleep routine, we finally slept around 3am.... read more

We dedicated our last day for Lantau Island! We took MTR to Tung Chung, then we queued for around 1 hour plus for the cable car to Ngong Ping Village. Can't believe the queue. There are a few other ways to reach Ngong Ping Village other than cable car, such as taking cab or other public transport. But there is 1 very interesting method: trekking! Yes, trekking haha.. I guess it will take me around 4 hours for one way journey from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping, but I really really really want to try! I think if I ever go to HK again, I will try the trek! It's so fun because you are surrounded by vast mountains. Imagine the euphoria. The cable car queue can tell you how the situation in Ngong Ping village ... read more

We had breakfast at a shop near TST, near Australian Dairy Co too, but I totally have forgotten the place name. After breakfast, we took MTR to Sheung Wan. Just as we exited the station, we saw a narrow road full of people selling customizable stamps. I don't know how to write my name in chinese, thus I didn't make one. Then we walked around Hollywood Road and ended up with lunch at Maxim in one of the buildings (of which name I've forgotten too, sigh poor memory). After lunch, we straight away go to Disneyland. Unlike last time, this time I get to buy souvenirs!! I get to watch musical show!! And most importantly, I get to watch the closing fireworks!!!!! Finally, unfinished business settled =) After Disneyland, we went to Lan Kwai Fong for ... read more

We didn't have any breakfast and rushed to ferry terminal at Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) to board a ferry to Macau. The main thing to note is that there are 2 destinations in Macau that we can choose from: Taipa or Mainland. Taipa is the one near Airport and Venetian, Grand Hyatt, Hard Rock hotel. Similarly, there are 2 departure points from HK: Kowloon (i.e. TST) and Central. we chose Mainland. Once reaching there, we took public bus to Senado Square. We were greeted with Chinese New Year Decoration. We also bought some floss snacks at a store nearby the square. From the square, we walked further in to reach a church. Then we continued our journey on foot to St. Paul ruins. At the market near St. Paul, we filled our empty stomach with yongtaufoo-kind ... read more

Early in the morning, after showering, we took MTR to Jordan station, then we walked to Australian Dairy Co. (consult google maps for exact location) for our first breakfast in HK. It was a very busy place that we had to share a table with other person. Our table-mate happened to be two Taiwanese female, who are sisters, and who are tourists like us. However due to language barrier, they are not fluent in English and we are not fluent in Chinese, we barely talked. But we did take photos and added each other on facebook. What a cool encounter! After breakfast, we took MTR back to Tsim Sha Tsui, then walked to opposite Harbor City to catch a bus to Hong Kong University. We took 973 to HKU. The bus stopped outside west gate of ... read more

In Singapore slang, you can call me "kiasu". My flight is going to be at 4.30pm, so I figured I can still work half day, thus I only need to consume half day leave, instead of 1 day leave. So I work til 1pm, went back home, had lunch, did last minute packing and took a cab to Changi Airport, Budget Terminal. I'm taking Tiger Airways flight to Hong Kong. Again?? Yes! This is a redemption trip due to unfinished and unsatisfied trip from the previous trip in 2010. During the previous trip: I didn't manage to eat local delicacies, I didn't buy anything from local market and Disneyland, I didn't see the riverside promenade, I didn't get to enter casino in Macau. So my travel partner (Steph) travelled earlier than me (1pm flight). We're gonna ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Riau Archipelago » Batam January 15th 2011

Yes, everything is cheap in Batam compared to other cities in Indonesia. A quick comparison, you pay IDR 5000 in Medan for parking in a shopping mall, but in Batam you only spend IDR 1000 for parking in a major shopping mall. That's 5 times cheaper. This was not the first time I went Batam, but there are so much places to visit and so many cheap things that I would love to come back anytime soon. This is a 2-day 1-night trip. We booked the hotel online coz it's cheaper to do so rather than booking on the spot. We also rented a car for 1day and booked our ferry ticket a few days before departure. Saturday morning, our group of 5 people gathered and had breakfast at Food Republic, Vivocity. The ferry we took ... read more
