When you ask people about transportation in China everyone advises "don't bother looking for subways or buses -just go with cabs they are so cheap!" I started to look for a cab after a vegan meal I had on Songshaw rd. The food was extremely spicey and I found myself sweating and drinking lots of tea to cool down the fire that was going down my stomach. This vegan meal was stupendous. With my belly full, something not to be taken for granted, I decided that it was time to hail a cab back to the hotel. Crossing the street from the resturaunt I saw the blue taxi sign and decided that my best choice would be to stand under it so there would be no misunderstanding that I was in need of a TAXI. ... read more

The settting: Shanghai, China Time: Friday and Shabbat. Dragon Air safetly took us from Hong Kong to Shanghai friday afternoon. I have to admit I dont like flying in things that are named after blood thirsty animals. Keep in mind that I have to Get to Chabad center to make sure we have some kosher food for shabbat. I AM HUNGRY. We landed at Pudong airport at about 13:30, ran for a taxi and assumed we would be at the hotel with in the hour. Dont ever assume such things in China when it's pouring with rain. Two and half hours of driving. Millions of cars driven by crazy drivers. After driving for about an hour all I saw were another million cars all standing still. I let out a huge OY. ---I was warned ... read more

Good Morning Taipei! The sun is starting to come out of its four day fog! Thanks for the comments guys. As I've mentioned I'm traveling alone during the sunlight hours so they are the personal interactive highlight of my day. First of all before we continue with my daily update I have to warn everyone that I'm EXTREMELY HUNGRY. I realize now that I didnt bring enough food because I assumed that most of the time we will be in china where we will be stationed next to chabad. I thought "how much food do I need for four days?" apparently I need alot! I didnt take into account that in Taiwan there is absolutely nothing kosher.. I will call this "the kosher Taiwanese diet" I am hoping that only eating some manot chamot, bananas and lachmit ... read more

If you recall in my last blog I talked about First Impressions. But i first must reply to all of you that asked. Yes, we did go to Anne Franks House. Both Jeff and I found it very emotional. Jeff did not go on the cruise liner and maybe on the way home we will get to the Van Gough Museum. No, I never heard of the song Amsterdam, dam ,dam.. Going to Taiwan is so out of my box that I have a few firsts. I have to admit I was rather apprehensive about touring the city of Taipei, one has to understand that I cant even make out a syllable let alone a word when people are talking. Now we all know that I am a big talker and I have to admit that ... read more

Welcome to my my journey that I have named "looking to get out of the box". After months of planning, dreaming and even leaving my job - Sunday morning Jeff and I walked onto the plane that would eventually get us to Taiwan and China. For those of you who know me, my fear of flying is a love hate relationship between me, G-d, the pilot and awe of any stewardess who would risk their life to take people from one place to another. So I have to give a moment of thanks to the inventors of a wonderful pill called xanax- for without it the thought of me entering a metal tube would not happen. This note of thanks is important for with out it I am sure I would be sitting in my living ... read more
